PwC as 1-Step: Durability?

I currently use PwC as part of a multi-step, something like SSRx/PwC/EX. I love it used this way for my own vehicles and close friends. I am also a neighborhood weekend warrior for cash, and some people can only be convinced to do a wash/1-step wax (BTW, these are the same people that think I am nuts to detail my vehicle all the time).

For a 1-step wash and wax for cash, I was thinking PwC or Mothers Cleaner Wax. Mothers is cheap and readily available, and does a pretty good job as a 1-step. However, I think PwC was also designed as a 1-step, and I already own it as part of my full regiment.

I know this is very subjective and is affected by many factors, but how long could one reasonably expect PwC to last as a 1-step? Longer/shorter than Mothers? Any other factors to consider?

As always, thanks for your replies and opinions.

I purchased my brother some detailing supplies for Christmas this last year, and PwC was part of the "package." He really likes it, and when I asked him about it he says he probably uses the PwC once every two months. He keeps his car pretty clean by normal people standards, so I am guessing he gets a month or two out of it.

I can easily get three to four months out of PwC by itself and I have people with it on their boats in the water getting up to six months:hippi

Thanks guys. Three to four months sounds pretty decent for a 1-step. I wouldn't have any problems using this product for my neighbors if we got similar results.

Anybody else getting same or different results?

smprince1,

Keep in mind that durability depends on a lot of variables.

Somebody that parks their car outside all the time will get different durability than someone who keeps their vehicles parked in a garage.

A vehicle that is only driven occasionaly will get better durability than someone who uses their vehicles as everyday drivers........... also depening on who parks where?

Someone who maintains their vehicles between details will get better durability than someone who doesn't. If someone washes their vehicle with Dawn, or a big glob of car wash soap.......... they will see limited durability.

There are a bunch of other factors...... climate, localized environment.......... Etc.

In the end, don't promise a thing, or state any "estimates".......... they will come back to haunt you....... trust me! :(

Boss_429,

I agree with your statements about many factors and also about not promising anything. But, on a relative basis for comparison's sake it's good to know that PwC can potentially yield 3-4 months if properly maintained.

For example, in my area I can get 5-6 months out of the SSRx/PwC/EX regiment on my daily driver if properly washed and QD+ during this time. Maybe the shine is slightly diminished by this time, but it seems the protection is still somewhat there. I don't promise this to anybody, but in my own mind I can guesstimate that the PwC alone will probably last about half this long and not, say 1/10th as long for example. I feel better knowing the potential is months, not weeks.

I always explain to my customers that the durability of any wax/sealant is dependent on many factors such as the ones you have mentioned. No promises or estimates are ever given.

But, I do appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Try and sell them on the idea of having the 1 step done every couple of months.
When they pick their cars up, just tell them you will give them a call in a couple of months to set a time when they can have it done again.
Maybe even offer a 10% discount on every third job if they commit to regular service.

wow I had no idea that PWC could last 4 months . That's a bit much for me out here in the islands . 80+ every day with passing showers !! I'd give it a month at best for me . But its thee best 1 step for me .

Well, anybody that's looking for even better durability out of PWC with a "fairly" quick 1 step application might want to try this....

Apply the PWC using a PC with the PC set at 4 and work the product just a bit get a bit more of the "polishing" part of the PWC.... but still leaving some of the protection behind. Then, with a hand applicator, immediately go over the area "lightly" with another extremely thin coat of the PWC to get more of the "protection" part of the PWC. Do this to the entire vehicle and then remove.

Yes, it takes just a tad longer than the normal process, but seems to add more durability, as you are essentially laying down say....... a thin coat and a half! :D It also looks very nice, as you have taken advantage of both the polishing abilities in one step and the gloss/protection in another step.......... yet, you have kind of..... done it in one step. When you get this process down... it works great!

Just my 2 cents.

:yeah that is a very good idea and I also recommend doing that for people who want to use only one product and call it a 1 and 1/2 step job:D
