Put a pond in the backyard

Pockets

So after cleaning out my grandfathers pond I decided that I wanted to put a pond of my own in our backyard. We have a fire pit in the backyard often and have some cigars and a drink so a water feature would be great .... love the sound of running water.

The pond liner (and flat rock) actually came from my other grandparents front yard. It was too much to keep clean and attracted deer that were eating flowers. So with some convincing of my father he agreed and I go to work. Did not take but 2 hours and we had a pond haha.

It's not a big one and a good one to start out to see if we like it.

Here are some pictures.

Laying it out

Hole dug

Fits great!

Filled up and edged built up

Critter that needed rescuing this morning. Only was in there for three hours max dad did not see it when he left this morning.

Working on the waterfall .... needs some work but basic.

I will upload more as it comes along but that's how she sits as of now I'm pretty happy .... fish to come later too.

Looking good Pockets. I have a pond in my back yard as well. I have some Koi in it and it's very nice. What kinda of pump are you using for the waterfall? I need a better one for mine.

This thread made me chuckle... No offense but I thought you were talking about a pool sized pond. Still looks good though, I'd get some fish to put in it

Looking good! My grandpa has a rock waterfall in his backyard. He had the guy incorporate it into the small hill so it looks pretty natural. He did a damn good job on it. I'll post a good photo of it tomorrow and maybe you can get some ideas from it.

Haha okay it's more like a puddle that one day will be dug up into a pond lol .... Here is my grandfathers "pool sized" pond ... does this qualify =p

Here is a few of my grandfathers pond that I cleaned out

How green it was before

You could damn near walk on the sludge at the bottom

Pressure washed and filling up

Almost filled up and water features added

That picture was with the hose haha but this picture is how it sits now with a pump from home depot .... I believe 20 watt and 220 or 280 GPH it was 55 bucks from Home Depot. It is just perfect flow of water.

Also that is on of the Papyrus plants from my grandfathers pond
