As I understand it, rev matching occurs when down shifting. As the clutch is depressed and the car is taken out of gear, the throttle is blipped as the gearshift passes through neutral. Then the car is put into gear. Can any damage occur from doing this? It makes shifting much smoother and I would imagine places less wear on the clutch.

downshifting isn't the best thing for your tranny. rev matching makes it a little better. When assuming you are speaking of downshifting to help decelerate (engine braking), there are two ways to do it. One is to heel/toe and revmatch, the other is to just let the clutch out slowly which will match the revs for you (the clutch will slip until it matches).

While the second way will end up smoother, in most cases, it's also will use up your clutch more.

Revmatching is a little better on your clutch. But then again, I'm of the opinion that downshifting should be reserved for times that you really have to decelerate quickly. Brake pads are a lot easier (and cheaper) to replace than a clutch.

the car should be traveling at the same MPH speed with higher RPMs due to the lower gear. Then you can stomp on the accelerator and take off.

I had polished this clients S65 and F430 over 18 months ago.

He told me that he had taken the S65 to a local hack shop in town, but as you can see it was a waste of $300.

As soon as I arrived on scene and inspected the paint, I called Bret in on the job. I knew we where in for a full day of fun.

Thanks Bill! He was happy when we brought him out after doing the test panel on the door.

Your not one of those hacks who claims to do true paint correction in 4-6 hours are you?

Hey Lover,

Just saying 2 Georgia studs with waist lines hitting 40 should of knock this out in less than 23 hours, a lot less.
No hard feelings here.

Howdy, Georgia Stud here.

One of the nice things about having clients with very high end cars is they are willing to pay for top quality results. Only thing is, you have to deliver, or you're back to detailing scummed out minivans and beater Camrys.

This particular car had been "detailed" by a local hack shop, which might be good enough for most people but not for a discriminating client like this one. When Bryan saw the car, he knew it was not going to be a quickie one-step, knock-it-out detail. The client wanted perfection and either we deliver for him or we don't. Perfection takes time. Just ask Kevin Brown, Todd Helme, Mike Phillips, David Fermani, or even Paul Dalton.

The client was happy enough with the quality of our work to invite us back to detail his Ferrari F430 and brand new Aston Martin DBS. I'd say the 23 man-hours was worth it. It's not like we didn't get paid for the effort.

And, yes, I am holding a Brinkmann in that pic. It's always important to check one's work before moving on to something else.

Seems like you have a couple of extra coins in your pocket. Maybe you could bring your paint correction to the next level with a Festool or a Fein Rotary.
Sure save you some(man) hours!!!

Just so we have it straight, its 23 manhours. I was there for 12 and Bret 11 hours.

So offer us a solution on how to get this car done quicker. I'm all ears...

Yes Chubby, Myself and Todd had spent many hours working on a car. It's what a customer wants done and willing to pay for perfection. The correction is sweet guys! that ride is freaking gorgeous!

I've used many of the fancy, overpriced tools. They're nice toys but little more than that to me. I'm kinda past that obsession.

I have to finally chime in here.
Your initial remarks, while "cute", are starting to wear thin.
To second what Flash said, let it go.
Let's give these guys major props for their hard work.
