ProWax Bug Guard

I realize this is insanely old, so I apologize. But I thought an update would be useful.



For a long time I used this product with an el-cheapo spray bottle. It sprayed out a glob, and I'd wipe it on with a foam applicator. As a result, I found the product not so useful.



For one, the car had to be clean first, as I was wiping it. For two, you can't get that much on. Eventually I had a Meg's QD bottle (the maroon ones) that was empty, and I cleaned it up and put the Bug Guard in it. It works much much better this way. The sprayer sprays a mist, and I basically spray a coat on just like if you were painting the car. It goes on much much thicker this way, and also you can put it on a car that is dirty. So you can spray it on on the start of a roadtrip (where maybe your car is clean) but can also spray it on for the return trip, where maybe your car is not clean.



I did this on a ~700 mile each way trip on the Aurora and Corvette, and it worked like a charm. Bugs rinsed away easily after each leg of the trip. I only use this stuff on road trips, not all the time, but it works great for what it is.

Thanks for the update. I keep thinking that stuff might be good for the S8's rare roadtrips. Two Qs:



Any signs of it doing anything undesirable to the underlying LSP?



Is its presence obvious if somebody's checking out the car?



Oh, and I'm assuming the Bug Guard would adhere OK to something like UPP...

1) Yeah, when I wash the car afterwards, the area where it was tends to sheet water more than the rest of the car. But then bug and tar remover affects the LSP also, and this is just so much easier. That's why I only use it on roadtrips, though.



2) I wouldn't say obvious, but if you look at it, yes you can see it. It dries clear, but you can see the spray patterns and such, and it's somewhat thicker.



3) I would think it would work fine over anything.



Glad to hear you still have the S8. Do you still have the other cars (cop Caprice, and I wanna say some older Jaguar?) Have you accumulated ;) anything else? :wavey

The Accumulation has changed a bit and will change more shortly:



We still have the Audis and I still have the 18K mile '85 Jag XJS (been in one shop or another all year as I get it ready to go back on the road). Still have the 23K mile '84 RX-7 but I haven't done anything with it since taking delivery :o Still have the MPV, for what little it's worth I might as well keep it forever. Sold the Caprice to a guy who's really into them. Gonna sell the beater-Blazer to my painter's son as soon as the dogs outgrow it (that is, as soon as the puppy gets big). Gonna sell the '97 M3 (if I ever finish detailing it :o ) to make room for the Jag when it comes home. Need the space because I bought an '04 Yukon XL Denali to replace the Blazer.



The Yukon will only fit in the shop (too tall for the house's garage) and it takes up an acre of floorspace, greatly complicating everything. It's too nice to leave outside though, even if I were inclined to do that.



Suddenly the dog-hauling is pretty much dictating everything. That's about it for me, these days it's all-dogs, all the time at our place :D What's up with you?



Oh, and I still keep that Mitch Rosen in mind, do you still like it?

LOL! I feel like that here, except it's cats. Thankfully cats don't need to be driven anywhere with any great degree of frequency.



The Mitch Rosen is a quality piece, no doubt. But what its holding is just too big and bulky. I almost never wear it. That said, it does a fine job of making my gun safe smell nice and leathery... I have a Ruger SP101 that I need to get a holster for, maybe a pocket one. It's a much better candidate for this. I just haven't gotten around to it. I can't take it to work, or even have it in my car there, and there's not a lot of other places I go. So I just haven't gotten around to it. Hopefully I'll never have an opportunity to regret that.



Those Caprices sure have a following. A rather basic family car from 20 years ago, and man there are people who go nuts for them. A friend of mine still loves those cars, though mainly the '90 and earlier square body (he has a '96 Impy though).
 
BradNC- You're too far from me, at least compared to the Pro dealer in my town.



Aurora40- Yeah that Ruger would be nice for that and the pocket holsters I've used worked better than I'd expected (as in, they stayed in the pocket ;) ). But I'd probably go with a clip-draw instead if they make 'em for that model.



Those square b-bodies kinda appeal to *me* too :o You can use suspension pieces off the later ones and otherwise go all hog-wild on 'em.
