Prototype Machine Polishing Testing....

Alright, I finally got my hands on this new buffer....:woot:



It is a forced rotation orbital machine with a unique counter weight balancing system.



It felt very good, did not vibrate at higher speeds at all, a little on very low speed but not bad and not speeds I'd ever use when polishing a car.



I liked it.:2thumbs:



He had a few prototype machines configured and after testing the different off sets on 2500 grit sanding marks we narrowed it down to one machine that excelled beyond the rest in every way.



Now he will take that machine head and specific off set and modify it into a smaller light weight machine and have a more finished product for me to play with in a week.



He's trying to develop a forced rotation orbital machine to do 75%-80% correction in 1 step and finish down perfect with no haze or buffer trails. We got very close to this, but of course the pad and polish combo will play a huge part as well as the type and hardness of the paint being polished....

why is he trying to hit a correction number? 70-80% on what softness/hardness paint? its obviously going to be different from a honda to an audi.



sounds kinda like a flex with clockwise rotation???? or no?

Yes, the motion of it is very much like the Flex machine but it has a different balancing system and different off set as well as many other parts.



He's trying to make a machine he can market to dealerships and shops (volume) as a 1 step process with minimal time spent working and maximum correction achieved.



Of course the results will vary depending on the car's paint and damage, I explained this all to him as well as different pad/polish combo's and different detailer's polishing techniques will all fetch different results. Many variable's to consider.



I will be getting the final version for a few weeks to experiment with it on different cars and find out results on harder clears.



We'll see what happens.

No promises, but maybe once I get the smaller more finished model I'll think about it.... honestly it looks like a regular mid sized machine but with a giant attached head where the pads go on.

I think for a rotary machine this might be very true but for a d/a I have to disagree. Yes it's a good feature to have but the machine is far from worthless with one speed... I have yet to use my Flex below 5-5.5 over the past 4-5 months and have no need to. I have the PC to apply protection at speed ~3. Don't get me wrong, if I was making it variable speed would definitely be there. However, if this machine is something like the Flex but with less/no vibration (hopefully noise too) I would definitely give it a try, especially if the price was a bit easier on my wallet.



Josh I'm jealous but trust you'll do a great job and post your findings. Sounds fun... keep us updated!

It is a variable speed machine btw. forgot to post that up earlier.



well, don't be too jealous, this just means I get to do a bunch of work I'm not getting paid for....

umm.... no, that kind of like saying Chevy and Ford are the same cause they both have 4 wheels.



As I already mentioned it has a much different off set and a much different balancing system. It is very smooth with almost no vibration.



IMO it will be much better then the flex, but we'll see how the final product turns out. Still more testing to be done.:buffing:
