Protecting & Preserving The Underhood Liner ?

Any thoughts on protecting and preserving the hood liner ? I have not seen to much discussion of this and wondered it the various detail products would affect it in a negative way.
 
I have a white 02 Silverado new last July. Being white the black and white stuff under the hood looked real good....except the hood liner/blanket was dark gray and it got to looking crummy within a few months.



I took it out and made a custom liner but that didn't work out very well...long story, so I just spray painted the original liner and reinstalled it. It looks great. I suppose I might have screwed up it's ability to absorb heat or something or other but it looks great! I'm happy.....at least until this becomes ugly too. :wavey
 
Yeah I'd like to know about this too, and how to clean it and keep the fabric from falling apart as they tend to do with age... :(
 
Something I've done on mine (original 92 hood pad) is use a sticky lint roller. Cover the engine bay/fenders/windsheild with plastic and then use the roller on the hood pad. It will remove loose dirt, pet hairs and other loose debris. Plastic protects your clean engine/fenders/glass from dirt that will naturally fall when you roll the surface.



NOTE: I wouldn't recommend this for a pad that is in poor condition.



I'm also interested in other ideas as this doesn't remove any embedded stains like oil/grease. Anyone?:nixweiss
 
If it's in poor condition, I would replace it. Most liners are reasonably priced... even a miser like BeeDubya buys a new one every two years.
