The newspaper tip for windows definately works. I learned the tip from a window washer who said that of all the things that he has used to clean windows, newspaper left windows streak and particle free. Also, make sure that you keep the direction consistant on both sides of the windows. ie. If you go up and down from the outside DONT go left to right on the insides.

crush the paper into a ball and use it with your glass cleaner.

*do not use this with tinted windows* newspaper may scratch the tint.

rememer to use black & white news paper not color.

DavidB our Ring Master, is coming out with a pamphlet to give your customers after you detailed their vehicles.

The pamphlet will describe how the customer should maintain the vehicle untill your next detail.

DavidB also suggested a product/tool kit that the customer could purchase from you. The kit should include your best refill items, some in your own private lables or generic containers.:xyxthumbs

I would suggest using different directions for inside and outside, that way you know where ( inside or outside ) you have streaked or missed a spot and eliminates having to do the entire window again.

And I have been using a new glass MF that is very much like a silk napkin. Lint free and works a treat ( on par with the newspaper which I used previously IMO ).

Awsome tips, I have used newpaper before and it works well. Since I started the post I'll keep adding some tips as long as I can.

Let's see.............

To take off wax after you have applied by hand, use your PC. Instead of using those slip on terry bonnets, just through down your MF and place the head of your PC in the center of it. Use it to take off the wax and just trough the MF in the wash as usual.

If I have to detail in the hot sun I soak my T-shirt in cold water and put it on wet,as if drys out it keeps me cool,a wide brimmed hat is also a Godsend,as is a high factor suncream on the back of the neck.

the newspaper trick started out because of high-speed printing.....the newspaper had ammonia added to the ink for drying purposes.....nowadays because of VOC compliance, and employee health issues they've all switched over to a fast drying vegetable oil based printing ink....newspaper can still work simply because its lint free....although u used to get the benefit from the ammonia just as well.......doesnt matter if its black or white or color.....

i avoid it just because i know its oil based.....even though i know its all dried up....just bummed me out when they switched....

Still working on it...

NYD, I realize many of you do it, but not everyone has the skill of the time. I'm happy to help out.

Make replaceing the floor matts the very last thing you do. You never want to track a singe particle onto the matts you just scrubbed for 20 minutes. Also that is right where the owner will look as they enter the car the first time after a detail.

I've also found that you should keep your work area clean and organized. You will be more efficient. After each process performed, put the rag and bottle back in its place. When you are done vacuming, roll the hose back up and get it out of your way, etc.

Having an organized area can help you think more straight. Especially when it's hot and your tired and have a nightmare vehicle to tackle.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

I’m not a professional insomuch as I don’t earn my living by detailing, but I’ve been detailing for money for four decades plus so I thought Id contribute.

A detailing service will thrive in any area of the country if it is based on one, simple rule.

Give your customers more than they expect.

Repeat Customers are the Secret to Success! Give your customers more than just a clean car. Make a real impression.

Give them Quality, Value, and Piece of Mind.

Quality:

there is simply no substitute. Insist on the highest-quality service, equipment, and products. Your competition doesn't.

Value:

give your customers value for their dollar. Never cut corners to save cost.

~Hope this helps~

Cheap post...adding on to other's comments...

2) use a carribenner(sp?) clip attached to your belt loop, clip the PC/rotory cord through the loop so the cord stay closer to the body and off the paint

Wrap the carabiner in electrical tape so you don't have to worry about scratching the paint...

waterspots...also try claying if vinegar doesn't work...

I also slip off my shoes before taking the car to the customer area...that way no other gunk gets on there...

It also makes sure the carpets dry completely after shampooing or extracting.

Here is another time saver for door jam's. When you are wetting your car with your pressure washer open the doors and blast the door jams and the plastic kick plate. Also blast the seam of the door and the edge of the door itself. Instead of using a cleaner and making a mess of your towels. After you blast, all your have to do is give it a quick wipe with a terry towel and they are all done. Once you do it a few times you won't get the insides wet, and you are doing this before you start your interior anyways so a bit of water does not hurt.
