Products That You Wish Still Were ;)

Anyone who has ever squeezed a wash mitt over the years has seen a product that they truly liked come and go. It's kind of hard when a product that you are used to having in your cabinet is no longer available. Products go away due to limited sales, VOC compliance or some other reason. After a little trial and error we usually find something that not only replaces our favorites but is a little better than what we had used. Some of the products that I have liked over the years that are no longer available are: Meguiar's #16 paste wax, ArmorAll original detailer's formula tire dressing, the old clay formula along with a few others.

One that that I've found fits into this category I happened to use just a few months back. I still have about half of a bottle of the original DetailersPride paint sealant. It was the green colored formula. It seemed to get a bad rap in the durability department though I didn't ever find it to be particularly weak in this area.

I decided to use this on my fathers Edge about 3 months or so ago. I do a full detail on his vehicles about 3 times a year. It was still easy to use and looked great when finished. At this point, I would have thought nothing further about it but it so happened that my father got an offer to sell his not quite 2 year old vehicle (only 8000 miles).

He typically turns a vehicle over every year, one year his truck the next year his car. This time he had a buyer ask him to sell it before he was really in the market to buy a new one. He is one that believes you sell something when an appropriate offer is in front of you. So true to his form, he was ready to let this one go. He always has me do a full detail on his vehicle about the time he gets ready to let them go in order to get top dollar out of them.

This offer came out of the blue, he asked me if I could detail it the next morning as the buyer was to look at it in the afternoon. I've had some shoulder problems recently that would not allow me to help him out on this short notice. He was disappointed but also a bit desperate and decided he would take it down to the local wand wash and take a bucket with mitts, brushes, etc. along with him to clean it up. Yes, he always comes over and borrows my best equipment, well not really but he thinks I'm letting him use my best stuff. I have his stuff in one cabinet and the stuff I use in another.

Now my father is the kind of guy that appreciates nice things but never bothers to tell you how nice your work or how great something actually is. He came home after washing it and could not believe how the water just ran off of his vehicle. He said it almost dried itself. Though he seldom says thanks he could not stop raving about the wonderful product I had used on his vehicle. He now thanked me several times some 3 months after the fact. It cleaned up very easily for him and he just couldn't stop talking about it. He felt there was no need for a coat of wax. Well to cut to the chase, he sold the vehicle for more than he was expecting, it will cost him relatively little to jump to the same vehicle, 2 years newer. Well, I tell this story to say that this is one of those products that I miss. If you've got one you miss tell us about it.

Pinnacle Paste Glaz is the only thing I can't readily replace (when I run out) that I feel is a personal favorite product.

I thought Signature II was the replacement for PPG? No? I've always used it as such.

I miss One Grand Blitz. I still have a can of it, but I'm afraid to use it since once it is gone then it is all gone. Do they even still make it? The can I've got is pre-VOC, so it is probably bulletproof in comparison to what we have these days. I loved that stuff...

So I have heard, but in direct comparison they don't look the same to me, nor is SSII as slick after application. PG has a more warm look, whereas SSII seems to be a lot more "clear" - almost sealant like/sterile to me. Subtle, if not imagined difference on my part, but they're not the same in my opinion.

$29.95 for a 12 oz. can from most places, although there is one that has a 15 oz. can for $29. A quick search can find the stores.
