Products that are "best buys" (in terms of value)

A friend of mine was asking me about good products that are also a good value. Guess you can say he's on a budget.

Three products popped in my mine first.

1) S100 - not as inexpensive as some "off the shelf" products, but 1/2 the price of other premium carnubas

2) SEPC - can't beat it for $8.95

3) EO W&S - never heard anything negative about this inexpensive QD.

Any other suggestions?

EFHI or Meg's APC+. Excellent for cleaning wheels, tires, wheelwells, carpets, interior plastics, body trim, cladding, etc, etc. Buy a gallon and dilute it to whatever strength he needs.

Clay Magic from WalMart. For under $10 w/ lubricant it can't be beat. Tell him to get it now as its going to be discontinued soon.

Armor All Original Shine. Now a water based PDMS product, its plenty safe to use on rubber and plastic.

Clay magic is being discontinued. Do you know why?

This really is a great off the shelf inexpensive QD. Another great one that comes to mind is Mother Showtime QD.

Another good carpet cleaner is Prestone Interior/Carpet Cleaner. This is the one in the red can with the scrub brush on top. I think it sells at Walmart for around $3.50 ish.

I have to agree with S100. For $14.95 you really can't beat it as a good carnuaba.

I have also heard good things about Mothers Reflections Showtime Glaze. Even though I have not tried it, friends that have say its very easy to use. Sells for $5.99 at Pep Boys or your fav auto store.

Meg's cleaner wax is a great bargain for a non-Autopian ($4.39 at Target, paste or liquid). Mother's CG cleaner wax is also good, but costs 2x as much.

GC wash, $10/gal at Target.

Viking MFs at Kmart, $5/pair.

Lambswool mitts, $4 at Walmart.

Final Detail- $15/gallon. Like Bretfraz said- APC+. In reality, SG is a great value for how little one uses per application and the results it gets.

APC+ is a crazy bargain. You'll get at least 5 gallons of cleaner for about $14.

Final Detail too. It works out to about $2.25 per 16 ounce bottle (assuming you have a bottle already) assuming $18 for a gallon.

Gold Class car wash in the gallon is really cheap too.

How cheap exactly are you talking? Cleaner/Wax cheap? Or just not $20 for a protectant cheap?

Some nice towels and wash mitts are things not to cheap out on. Maybe just get some good car wash, towels, wash mitts, and a cleaner/wax to get started. Then at least he can expand from there without wanting to replace the stuff he already has.

Get a nice base of products that you can build on, instead of getting a bunch of stuff that you'll soon want to just replace and pitch.

When a co-worker wanted to get into detailing a bit more, and wanted to upgrade from her Zymol Cleaner/wax, I pointed her to nice irregular/overstock cotton towels, some ClayMagic, a sheepskin washmitt from Wal-Mart, some GC car wash, some foam apps, and some MPPP. I also tossed in a bottle of Gold Class Clear Coat Prep and Swirl Remover for her to use as I really have no use for it anymore. Probably a total of about $75 but now she has quality stuff that will always be useful even if she wants to change her routine. She was blown away at how much better a job it all did on her 4Runner (as was I when I saw the difference on the side she did compared to the hood she hadn't yet done). She subsequently bought that October special so now has some #40, a nice wheel cleaner, some more MPPP, and she picked up some APC+.

Hey, if you're thinking S100 is an amazing value, have him pick up some #16. It's a few dollars cheaper, and is 11 oz of product. It's a surprising value for how good it looks and how durable it appears to be.

Just about any Meguiar's Detailers Series products like Final Detail, Citri-Gel, APC+, and Glass Cleaner Concentrate.

Poorboy's Natural Look protectant.......... performance on par with 303, with a much better price and smell.

S100 - For the price, shine, and durability, it can NOT be beat.

Klasse AIO + SG - For under $40 for the pair and the amount you have to use to get a shine. Not to mention, amazing durability. These twins are a top choice.

Gliptone Probuff - Truly great cleaning abilities. Removes fine swirls and oxidation, then leaves a great shine. Can be used as a one-stepper and at just $25 a gallon, its a great value.

Clay Majic Clay Bars - Works great! Low price.

I would gather that since Forrest posted that tidbit that we will be seeing a product from the company that employs him :)

My local WM has picked up a couple of Mothers products in the last two months so it seems to be a natural progression..

Hope it's nicely priced.

I'd have to agree that S100 is an amazing value. I'm getting about 35-40 wax jobs per jar....and the results are terrific.

Clearkote's Carnauba Moose Wax. I can do a car with les than an ounce. A pint will probably do my car 20 times. Not bad for $18.00.

That depends. If someone can get S100 locally without shipping it's considerably less expensive than CCW.

CCW = $18 + $8 shipping = $26 vs $14.95 plus tax for S100.
