Product Review: Leatherique Leather System

I have tried Leatherique a couple times to soften up rough leather and found it did not make any difference at all. The leather felt exactly the same as before using it. I let it soak in hot sunlight and even put saren wrap around the seats and treated areas but it made no difference. I then tried a product call Surflex Sofner, which is very similiar to leatherique but looks to be a little thicker and concentrated and does not need to be removed with a PC product, I went all out cleaning the seats with Wolfgang citrus based cleaner and used the whole can of sofner, wrapping all treated parts in Saran Wrap and leaving it outside in the hot sun with a space heater in the car, and using a hair dryer this took 2 days and afterwards I said forget trying anything else it if this does not work. Pretty much the same results, the leather felt no different before this process, maybe just a hair softer but nothing really noticeable. I have been told that Japanese leathers are treated with some kind of silicon sealant that will not allow any kind of condtioner to penetrate which essentially means the leather will prematurely harden/gets rough and cannot be repaired/nourished/softened because the conditioner will not penetrate and just sits on top of the sealant, others have had the same results. What you feel is not the actual leather but the silicon sealant. I guess leatherique, surflex, and connely hid food is more for Italian, English, and some German leathers that do not have these strong silicon sealants and can be nourished and softened up but will not work on most Japanese leathers as well as some others treated with these sealants that help protect against stains but ruin the leather/feel/smell/properties.

1 gal special is certainly is the most cost effective since it seems the product is used so liberally.
Plus I just got a club chair in the house Ill use it on in addition to my brief case.

lexusgs - I wouldn't doubt that is a benefit of the factory leather treatment process. Lock up the pores with silicone so they can absorb debris and odors.

Be careful using it on the steering wheel. An Autopian (the MIA Lynn ) used it on her SII XJ and it worked great on everything *except* the steering wheel. The wheel came out so nasty she was worried about having to have it redone...forget what she ended up doing about it :think:

I think they have a separate kit for steering wheels. Talk to George at Leatherique rather than take my word for it!

GMBLACK3A (photos of before and after black seats on car):nomore: These are fake images. You can tell by 1) the panel that says 928 on yours has a diamond type mold on either side of the "928" the after doesnt. 2) Your before leather shows sign of wear and so does the rest of the interior. Leatherique revives the leather it doesnt get rid of creases. your dash is faded and gray in the after photo the interior is completely black.
3) the pictures are of 2 different qualities. before is from a home camera the after looks like a picture off the internet that was copied. 4) I have an Audi A8 and I have black interior and have been using Leatherique since I got the car and it does make the leather softer and prevents premature aging but it doesn not darken the leather. GMBLACK3A will inevitably deny that the photos are fake but just look at the two pictures. The only way these photos can be real is if you did a full restoration on the interior and dyed your seats in which case this isnt a TRUE LEATHERIQUE result.
Why do you have to lie? Leatherique is a great product without having to put up phoney pics. look at the Ferrari pics(excellent) that is detailing at its finest.(great job with the Ferrari.

It's the same car. Before looks like he used flash and the second, no flash. Look, the cd and the red thing are still in the dash. There is still "diamond type mold" on either side of the 928 but, because of the different lighting, it looks different. Look at the creases in the leather. The same creases are still there. They don't look dyed to me... only a little overexposed because of the flash.
They're the same...you need to get a grip before accusing someone of fraud.
First photo is using a flash and has sharp focus. Second photo has no flash and is slightly out of focus.
Second photo the dash/trim is dressed so looks new (and carpet cleaned), and yes Leatherique does darken leather and make creases close/shrink.

sounds like i'll have to try some. after my supply of leatermasters is used up. i've been using it since my truck was new so the seats are still in really good condition. i'd say they are a little softer and better feeling than when i got the truck. after reading this i'm quite curious to try it and compare it to leathermasters.
Here is the full writeup on the black 928, the only 928 I have ever had to the pleasure to detail.

Lighting is everything in photography......
You can change the color of any object by just changing the amount of light you expose it to....
Washed out black becomes gray and underexposed gray is deep black......
I think most here already realize this but, conspiracy theorists sometimes need a little reminder......

+1 Leatherique does amazing things to restore older leather even without a redye. It really does make it look close to new again.
