Product Review: Lake Country 'Gold' Foam pads

Thanks for the review Todd! Do you think these pads could offer an improvement over the gray and blue pads for taking jeweling/burnishing up a notch?

I don't know if I would use these pads for any correction that involves abrasives. Maybe a glazing step with a 'pure polish' but I don't think these pads have enough action to break down any abrasives. They feel like silk!

Sounds like it would be good for burnishing as well. Great review. Gotta try one.

You can try it for final polishing/jeweling but I would think that it is going to be extremely difficult to get the polishes to break down. The bad is that soft.

TH0001- I was all ready to think "oh, just another zero-cut pad" but then you covered all the reasons why it's truly *different*, and I'm quite intrigued by how well it worked with the sealants. Thanks for the great review!

NP Mi amigo. It is wierd how far sealants spread with this foam, they just stay wet and spread. Seriously I am loving this pad and actually don't hate applying sealants as much ;)

Yeah, I have *never* been happy with sealants-by-machine, even though I generally prefer doing *everything* (else) by machine.

If it doesn't absorb the product/leave too thick an application I'd be really happy with it...might oughta spend a little $ and see for myself

Todd, have you tried to apply sealant with a rotary and a soft pad just like the LC gold?

Have you tried them with any AIO's?

Not directed at me but, fwiw, applying waxes/sealants is not a wonderful idea. A rotary will generate too much heat during the process.

I was told by one manufacturer(Mark-V) that some sealants will bond better if applied by rotary. I've yet to try it, but will some day soon with all the excess products I have.

I have been working the sealants in with the udm/flex and a polishing pad on highest speeds for awhile now. Started after Bence told me that he saw Scholl Concept doing the same with the rotary and an ORANGE pad with very high speed.

And what are your findings so far........

I have been using to apply sealants with rotary and a very soft finishing pad. Works very nice. Heat will make the sealant to cure faster. I know that Meguiars and many others are using rotaries to apply sealants.

Meguiars M21 is rotary safe. I have applied some sealants with a rotary and MOST we okay, but some did not react well with it (holograms or shadowing).

I have applied Werkstat Prime with a rotary (on both blue and gold pads) and found it much easier to apply with the gold pad at low speeds.

David - I did Glisten on my Audi with a 4" SFX finishing pad on my rotary at about 1000-1250rpm to work it in and get a bit some heat in it. It worked really well and is the base for my winter prep this year :)

interesting Todd - thanks I really like using macines for as much as possible and assume you are using the PC/UDM with these?

Todd, I've always found it a PITA to clean Z5/Z2 out of MF applicators. How easy was it to clean the Z5/Z2 out of this gold foam pad? What did you use to clean it?

todd what type of pads might you suggest for the Makita 9227c? I have been trying to establish what the best combo is going to be... thank u sir!

Maybe LC will start offering that foam in a hand applicator.

You could always stick it to one of those velcro-faced hand-application pad holders. It'd be kinda big IMO, but it might work out OK.

That would work if they sell them in 4 inch sizes.

wannafbody- Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the by-hand use of ~6" pads, but some people must think it's OK :nixweiss

I got my hand-use velcro pad holder for the big pads from Griot's..eh...just not my cup of tea.

Just picked one up too, haven't had a chance to use it yet but it "feels" similar to the 3M ultrafina pad, almost as soft but not quite.

Interesting considering that the 'black' 3M and the ultrafina blue 3M pads use identical foam, which is also the same (but cheaper) the LC's gray foam. To me (and by logic) the gold pad is a much softer pad.
