Product Guilt

I have a lot of product sitting on my Shelf O' Detailing Stuff. I only have three cars to take care of, so they don't get used that often. I don't feel "guilty" about buying so much as I do for not using it all. There are some perfectly good products there just doing nothing.

I take a lot of pride in my huge selection of product. I don't know why I feel that way. Maybe it's some sort of twisted collection with no future value. I've given away some duplicate or stuff I haven't used very often.

I tell myself that I should take up some part-time detailing to use up the stuff. Plus I could use the cash to supplement my garage remodel. Itâ€â„¢s just tough to find the time with a full-time job, a business, a house, dog, and wife (no particular order of importance :D).Maybe I can figure out how to manipulate time to add a few additional hours into my day.

Iâ€â„¢ll probably start selling the stuff off in either abay or other detailing or automotive forums/sites. Iâ€â„¢ll want to keep the good stuff, but itâ€â„¢s going to stink making that determination.

My shelf is full so I haven't bought anything in a couple months. Forcing myself to use what I have until I run out of a few things, then I can buy some more goodies. No, buying a new shelf is not an option :nono

Apparently expanding our laundry room so I have additional storage is not an option either. :D

T he worst product I keep around is better than 90% of the OTC stuff. There are always people who want to learn, or want a freebie, that I can use up most of the "2nd" rate OTC old stuff.... My Z2 is not 2nd rate by any means, and with proper prep, the recipient of plain ol' Z2 is still in "shock and Awe" of the miraculous transformation he/she witnesses. Some of the OTC stuff is right up there with stuff I have to get off the net. Meguir's products (there are numerous ones) is an excellent example of a first rate OTC product which "turns to" and if the prep is right can really kick A** ! IMHO

No Guilt here ! And my wife knows where I am:rofl

I find myself quite lucky that I have been hit with very little buyer's remorse. I find that polishing/waxing/QD'ing my car is very therapeutic and relaxing...sometimes it's the only way to be "constructive" and get away from the non'stop movement of real-life. With that said, I am always trying out different combinations on everyone's car...so I really do get to try out all the products that I buy. If there is one thing I regret buying too much of, it's by far QD spray. For some strange reason, if I want to try a brand out, I always buy them in gallon sizes. I figure that if I really like it, I have made an "economical" decision. Doh!!!

I was going thru a phase where i was buying just about everything to try. Do i feel guilty that some haven't been used that much? Naw. Its part of finding the right products for your vehicles. Compared to other hobbies that i've undertaken, detailing seems to be the most relaxing and rewarding...

I've found the best way to control the spending is to take my already large inventory, and try trading it for samples of products that i want to try. In fact, I'm surprised that more people haven't taken advantage of this thread:
