Also when ever you have to pay that fee just charge it to the customer I know of a few businesses that do it that way. My boys tint shop he charges a few extra bucks if you use a card to cover the cost.

Just FYI, according to all of the merchant agreements of the major credit card companies, you are not allowed to charge extra for using a credit card, an informed consumer could screw you over.

I avoid business that do this very thing. Simply add the fees in the regular price and offer discounts to cash paying customers.

If a customer would want to pay by CC; I think a paypal account would work fine. Maybe just inform the customer to send the payment through paypal and then confirm it got processed on your cellphone. I would not even bother using a laptop or a blackberry to process the transaction since then you will have the burden of a customer entering secure information on a device that is not within an enclosed network. The paypal fee I think is on par with that of CC; 3% on each transaction.

About %1.68 for a card swipe transaction

About %2.2 for a "card-not-present" transaction (Authorize.net, etc...)

%3 for paypal is the highest, weather that is on par or not depends on your frame of reference.

No credit card transaction is on an enclosed network, they all are encrypted and go over the internet. Based on what I think I know, a wireless connection would not be significantly less safe than a wired one.

In my opinion, I think paypal gives an unprofessional impression for several reasons, but the main one being that people and businesses mainly use it that have not grown to the volume to step to the next level. They also have a bad track record of screwing with people, withholding vendor's money, and compromising buyer information. They may or may not have fixed these problems. I hate using paypal and only buy things through it as a last resort.

Blackberry or Smartphone + Paypal account. My New Moto-Q displays websites the same as my laptop, only smaller. Paypal has fixed alot of issues recently and with a business account you have higher dollar amounts before you run into any limit issues.

FYI...I've worked in the CC processing biz for 10 years now and no one will ONLY charge you 1.68 for a swiped transaction. I've worked with businesses that process millions in cc's and they pay more than 1.68 for swiped transactions. Once you understand interchange (the fees that ALL processors pay to V/MC) you'll understand how most of the advertised rates you see offered are total bs and are just deceptive ways to get you to check them out. I LOVE educating people on this stuff so feel free to ask me any questions.

Seriously, I'm ALL EARS. I hate my CC processing people, I know the screw me. I would have no problem paying a little extra percent for the confidence that I am getting a fair deal. Do you know who what companies are good to use?

Thanks!

Chris

Found this post on lawnsite.org offering a different view on Paypal than the one I had:

=======================

I think it's unprofessional although all my customers that use it are actually happy I do and 1 even chose me over another company because I use it. What I'm speaking of is PayPal! You can setup recurring charges as well as create bills & invoices. I personally do all my invoices through GroundsKeeper Pro and just take the payment through PayPal.

It also allows non PayPal members to still pay you using their CC.

The most popular choice other than PayPal is Authorize.net. Very secure and reputable.
