Problems with machine polishing

New pads are in fellas.

Now I'd like your input on how to maintain and keep them in good health.

Since I'm working with ss....how often should I be switching pads? New pad per panel? Two pads?

Am I ok by leaving the pigment on the pad over a couple nights or should I just put them in the pad wash right away.

Striker- Noting that I don't always follow my own advice :o ...always better to clean anything ASAP. So I'd at least spray them with PC/Dawn Power Dissolver/etc. instead of just letting them sit there untouched.

Yes - per El Accumulatatorador, get the dirty pad soaking in something soon as you pull it off the machine backing plate..
Also, you need to push the entire pad under the cleaning solution so it can soak it up into the pores..

As for knowing when to change pads, first off, you will be using a clean towel to wipe the face of the pad after you finish working that section..
This will help keep the pad cleaner longer before you have to replace it with a clean one..

You will know when its too loaded up to work any longer, when it just doesnt work any longer on that section of the panel..
And if its single stage paint, it will be full of that color and it will be embedded into the pores..

You need lots of pads to do any single stage paint or any Airplane..
Good luck !

I only polished the hood, removed pads of backing plate, sprayed them down w dawn I had in a spray bottle. scrubbed them w a terrycloth towel. Scrubbed them under the kitchen water tab and rinsed and rinsed.

They look excellent! Now I hope they just dry up by tomorrow.

Can someone tell me if they know how I can post pictures on here via the mobile site?

The one thing is. I can't figure out why I keep getting these marks on my paint when I polish. I thought they were polishing marks but they're from something else. M205 removes them sometimes. I'm thinking it's the pad getting caked from the ss paint.

Will dawn cause pads any damage? I tried rinsing them as good as I could.

Striker- It does sound like the pads are getting contamiated with something, maybe it *is* cut-off paint. Maybe you need to do more frequent pad cleaning.

I've never had Dawn damage any of my pads.

I think it may be the glue off the masking tape that I am catching.

I'm not sure if it's the good 3m tape or some generic green painters tape.

I noticed all my spots are right near the edges of the tape. I now have to go backwards.... Polished..... Have glue spots..... Clay w sonus green clay.... Re polish. Not fun.
