problems with cali duster?

Hello all

has anyone had problems with the california duster.. i use it for removing fibers and stuff from towels when im done.. i have notice minor scrathes in the motion on the duster. Has this happened to anyone? I am not scrubbing with this either.. just nice and easy. Am i the only one?

i have but i think i got the hang of it now......just shake out very well.....

I had serious problems with swirls with the CCD. I burned it. Anyway, I was using it wrong, so it was my fault. Its not a mop, but I was using it like one. You just have to lightly drag the end of the threads over the car. Don't let the whole weight of the duster drag all over the car. That is how you get swirls. If you are getting swirls from using it and you aren't using it wrong, then I would suggest not using it anymore. It burns really well. :naughty
 
I saw on DFTowel's site a DF Towel duster is coming out, wonder if it will have a significant advantage over the CCD
 
I have one in each of my cars as well as one hanginf in the garage. You need ot lightly go over the car as the chemical in the duster will pickup the dust. Also shaking it a bit or a twisting motion is what I do after to keep it clean. I have seen a few minor swrils in the car but very little for the advantage that I get from dusting the car off and making it look clean again. I also follow this up twice a week with spray and wipe then QD spray if time allows
 
FWIW, Not all California Car Dusters are the same.
The three I own have strands of yarn that are nearly twice the size of the ones at Wal*Mart and Target. Maybe 3/16" compared to 1/8". The strands of yarn are probably close to 1" longer as well.
They may say "Original California Car Duster", but they are not the same as the ones I have.
One of mine is at least 15 years old and still works fine. It is very dirty looking, but I was told that the dirtier they get, the better they work. :dunno I also have what was called "The Super Duster". It has yarn all the way around the handle and is somewhat larger. They have been used on several black cars with no problems after the excess wax/oil in the material has worked its way out. The Super Duster did leave oily streaks for quite some time, but is fine now.

I have ones from WalMart, Target and Pep Boys, all look and perform the same: all do well :dunno

Since I have never used the Wal*Mart, Target, Pep Boys versions, I have no personal experience with their performance.
They are not the same as the ones I purchased from the California Car Cover Company.
The performance may be equal, but there is definitely a difference in the actual construction.

Actually, what the label says is "The dirtier they LOOK, the better they work".

I know, I have way too much time on my hands.

Since I never paid much attention to the labels, I'll take your word for it.:)
Like I said, I was told that the dirtier they get, the better they work.
FWIW, I was also told that they can be washed with Woolite. :dunno

Anyway, it seems that people use them with varying degrees of success. Kind of like most detailing stuff. :)

Someone must have experimented with success washing it with Woolite. Haven't seen that as an "official" direction.

How do I clean my Duster?

Because of a special permanently baked in paraffin treatment, The Original California Dusters are made to provide years of effective service without the need for cleaning. Simply shake them out before and after each use. The "dirtier" they get the better they work.

If you find it necessary to clean your Duster because it is too dirty or if the Duster stops lifting dust, it can be washed. You may hand wash your Duster in cold water with a mild detergent such as Woolite, then air dry. Do not use hot water to wash or hot air to dry, as heat or harsh detergent may remove the special paraffin treatment.

Paraffin is used or was used on snow skis to wax them. I have one of the orgianal CA dusters and its real dirty from years of use.

The ones that I brought at Walleys, Costco, etc. All of those where one sided. The one that I have is round the red cotton strings go all around the wand, no bare plastic on the back is what I'm saying. I can still run this across the surface of the car and see it pickup dust.

I would have to guess that there are plenty of these on the market that are better than others and will vary in results.
 
Thought I saw a DF Towel version of the CCD on their site coming out. I assume it will be made of the same strands as the towel is and will be something a bit more distinct from the CCD's current competitors.
