Problems w/ Tarminator and Clay

Detail time!
Hey all-
I just finished up a detail of an 03 WRX and there was a lot of tar all over the car. So I just picked up some Stoners Tarminator and decided this would be the perfect time to use it. Well it sure did remove the tar effortlessly which I am happy with but I am not happy with the residue left behind. The bottle states to wash the car, dry it, spray on a towel and wipe the tar off. Pretty simple huh? Well yeah it was but once I decided to clay (mother's) the rest of the car, whatever the residue was, literally smeared the clay into the finish and it was almost impossible to remove it. It is hard to describe but it was definetly a layer of clay mixed with the Tarminator that was left on the car. SSR2 with a PC still left the smears and only caked up my pad. I was too mad to take pics but has anyone else had this problem? Tarminator isn't supposed to leave anything on the paint (so the bottle says) so what gives? Sorry for the long post but I just dont want anybody else to have this happen to them 'cuz its not fun.

Not sure what you did wrong there, but the Tarminator can reads (after washing steps): 3) Gently wipe a Tarminator-soaked cloth over pre-washed surface to lift and remove tar, sap, grease and asphalt. 4) For difficult residue, reapply or spray directly onto surface and let Tarminator penetrate for a few minutes before wiping.

In the past, I'd spray it on the car, watch the tar melt, and wipe off. Worked great for me. Never had any residue behind that I knew of.

I'd have to guess you should try step 4. Spray it on the gunk, let it penetrate for a bit, then try and wipe it off. Follow up with a full wash or good detail spray.

All of the tar and such was off of the car and when I lubed the paint for the clay. There was a change in appearance of the spray once I sprayed the QD on it. So maybe I may have to clean the surface (AIO) before I begin to clay...

I get the same problems. Just wipe with S&W or something after the Tarminator and before the clay. Tarminator "melts" clay in some manner....

Allrigh, thanks. I was just seeing if I was the only one that had this problem because I have never heard of it before. Over time we learn a lot of good stuff but it is also nice to know what doesn't work.
