Prices and packages?

I think you are way too specific in your packages. I would be more general and mention washing, claying, swirl/scratch removal, protection x2, or something like that instead of mentioning actual products. A lot of people (even car guys) don't have a clue what ZPC or SIP or any of those other products are.

I completely agree.

Daniel, here's what one of my packages looks like. No mention of specific products. However, on my website I do have a dedicated page that tells people I feature Optimum products.

• Hand wash and dry

• Bug and tar removal

• Door jambs cleaned

• Wheels cleaned

• Tires cleaned and dressed

• Exterior trim dressed

• Clay bar treatment

• Paint polished

• Paint sealant application

• Exterior windshield polished and protected

• Interior vacuumed

• Interior carpets, floor mats, and upholstery deep cleaned

• Interior leather surfaces cleaned and conditioned

• Interior plastics cleaned and protected

• Glass cleaned inside and out

Yea, i wasnt planning on listing the ACTUAL products on my website (when i get one) or on my flyers. Just what you guys said. I only listed the products so you guys would know that im not using crappy stuff.

And yea, ide def be vaccuming (i thought i put it in... guess i didnt ile do that now).

And yea, with a Garage queen ide proly use a nuba because it looks GREAT! Probably P21s, or maybe Souverain (sp).

Im just excited about this summer!

You guys are going to lauph your asses off when i post up pics of my trailer (its AWESOME!). You guys have NEVER seen anything like it (i guarantee you). All you VW boys will be very happy to see this!

It only takes 15-20 minutes tops to apply and wipe of a coat of Z5, not 30-60 minutes?

i use it on a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with tonneau cover and a 2008 escalade, thats why it takes me that long :)

Y'all realize you are discussing this topic (in the Professional Forum) with a 14 year old?

Jim

Should i take that as an insult?

Are you under the misconception that a devoted 14 year old cannot work as hard as a 20,30, 40 50 year old?

Nope. One should never say you can't work as "Hard" or as good as anyone else because of your age... However you obviously can't work as "legally" as the older folks. Not sure how you want to take it but for now the only thing you need to concentrate on is experience. Because in reality it's the only thing you can do. You can't legally form a business or get insurence or really much of anything else that is vital in owning your own detail business. So for the next four years just get as much experience as possible.

But i can however get my parents to sign and everything be in the papers as theirs. And then me be the Manager, and worker. And the maximum amount of hours per week that is legal for me doesn't apply if im working for my parents so that will work out. Im not saying there arent road blocks in my way, im just saying that if it is possible at all then i will find that possible way. Im also not in ANY way saying that experiance isnt the most vital part to my success... on the contrary i completely agree! I am doing this so that i can get the most experience. There is no way that i could be involved in any of the local shops. Most of them are HACKS and the only good 1 is an a$$ that thinks he knows everything.

Daniel,

I have been perplexed and at a loss of words since you joined. I have largely not commented out of fear of bursting your bubble and coming off like a jerk. I am a fairly blunt guy. Tact is a Tack sans the k add a t in my book. What people are getting at is.

In the short the detailing industry has issues. It is easy for people to get into (cheap) and a halfway decent ad on CL will produce work. The problem is they are not licensed and insured. They skip out, damage cars, and generally give good detailers a bad overall image.

I applaud you for approaching it in the manner you have chosen. Please don't be taken aback by the responses you are reading. The responses are given with good cause. It is not the norm in todays society to see a young man with the conviction you display. To many it seems over eager. Couple that with the trust, by helping you along professionals are putting their trust, good name, and reputations in the hands of a 14 year old young man 5 or more states away. Think on that carefully. The men here Jimmy buffit, Setec Astronomy, mirrorfinishman to name a few have more individual exp than 20 of the average regular posters combined. When it comes to detailing, they have seen it, done it, and experienced every fad for the last 25 years (ketch's case 40+_). They have seen what used to be an artisan's standard degrade to a 500 dollar online kit. They have watched as guys come and go. As shops open and close. They are basing their skepticism in historical fact. Their knowledge of paints, paint systems, defects, and various tools, processes, and skill sets is out standing. You are getting their attention, and they are helping more than you know. It may not be what you want to read or hear. You should think about it carefully and to the best extent you can. Their advice comes with a lot of weight. That in and of it's self is the highest form of compliment i could honestly hope for.

What you need is not a shop of your own, but an apprenticeship. There are probably specific rules for such a thing in your state. Possibly find a mentor who will teach you from the ground up. vacuuming, to billing, to purchasing. I know i have set up a few people with the local community college instructor. He is able to train them in that mannor as an apprentice.

That is my two cents in a world of 20 dollar bills.

GREAT ADVICE!... I have not said this but i truly do mean this... THANK YOU ALL! I would rather a guy coming up to me and saying "your not doing that right and by the way, i think you are an idiot" then just not saying anything. I am trying to be the best that i can be and that is going to be the only way i will be able to. If any one of these guys met me in real life (even if i was having an argument) i would shake there hands and smile because it would be an honor to meet anyone of you guys.

I think that it is a GREAt idea for apprenticeship! I was trying to become an apprentice for someone but i think that it would be too much to ask if i could tag along with him for a week even. Ide feel as if i was slowing him down. If (a respected part of the autopian community) someone was to approach me and say you can come and learn from me for any amount of time, and in return i want you to help me detail customers cars. I would probably jump on it in a heart beat!

I hope you guys realize that i REALLY do appreciate your advice here! And even if it "isnt what i want to here" i still appreciate it! You guys tell me im not ready and i honestly respect your opinion. I would rather try and fail then not try at all though. I hope you arent saying that im a "disgrace to the car detailing profession". But if you are then you have a right to think that because i may not be as good as you.

I am almost positive i am going to be able to do this, and like i said... if its possible in any way, i will find out how.

And please NEVER refrain from commenting at me (be it a good comment or a not so good).

And i AM planning on getting insurance! Dad said tonight maybe there is a way to make it under the "umbrella plan over the house" (i think that is how he referred to it). And i am almost positive now that i will get my business license around April 1st.

Wow, I'm still amazed to see the one's here who still bring up his age.

He's asking for help on a pricing list, that's it, he's not asking to talk about, "if he can or cannot get a business license", he's already heard it a hundred times so get off his back already.

Let his parents be his parents for the luv.:furious:

Thank you! And if any of you guys think im ever out of line, then please call me on it!

Daniel, this a public forum, if you want to say something then say it, don't always worry about what others think, their's too many that will tell you what they think, just stand by your convictions and do what's right.:bigups

Daniel, I am impressed! I have friends with 13-18 year olds that would spend all day on porn, drug and anti culture sites if allowed, you come on to a Car DETALING site to post!

You obviously have your sight set on what you would like to do, keep up the dream, I'm sure it will become a reality.

Its refreshing to see a young teenager that has set some goals in life and not just dwelling on drugs, skipping school, being lazy etc...:2thumbs:

Thanks for the complement man! Im not planning on ever doing drugs. I hang out with a lot of upperclassmen and at the parties i go to there are drugs, but me and a few other of the lacrosse players will not let any of us try them. I am not planning on ever doing drugs.

And i am lazy! lol

I'm sure most teenagers are lazy, but for you to detail other peoples car to make a buck and go on this site so you can do a better job at detailing is not lazy in my books!
