preview of my current project: 71 300 SEL Benz full wetsand with a few surprises!

Andrew, you do have your work cut out for you and that's what I'd consider a bit more than an average detail.

Hopefully the painter applied enough coats so the sanding phase will be uneventful! I hate it when the clear coat is too thin and requires a re-spray...

I'll be watching and bet this will come out better than factory new!! :bigups

Looks like you're in for the long haul Andrew! Looking good so far, keep us updated. This should look amazing when it's done! :bigups

3 layers of clear were sprayed & its rock hard. sanding scratches are comming out nice with m105 but are taking alot of time. paul s was nice enough to send me some m101 to try out. i hope it gets here soon so i can see what all the hype is about. if m101 can remove the sanding scratches & save me some time on this job i would pay good money to have in the garage.
the hood, driver side doors, & below the trunk area were wetsanded with 1000 grit by the customer. i was told the rest of the car was untouched but i found sanding scratches & a few runs on the passenger side. under the halogens i can see a few areas of the car where the paint seems thin. the green is a lighter shade? =( i also spotted what appears to be some primer that sprayed onto the driver fender. theres little grey specks in the paint. mb the guy used the primer gun to spray & didnt clean it out properly? i was tought to keep primer & paint guns seperate, dont mix them up! the dots are in one of the clear coat layers.
im going to assume the rest of the car except the roof was also wetsanded with 1,000 grit as well then buffed. i will go 1,500, 2,000 then 2,500 for the roof & also for the rest of the car.
i found a few burn marks on the passenger side. few chips here & there. also, a spot on the roof looks like a little crack in the paint. im not going to rub that little spot. shes got some small pinholes here & there.
i believe the only part not wetsanded is the roof bc it has the most orangepeel & a ton of dust nubs!
i have made alot of progress on the car but have to take a time out in the morning to attend to this sexy lil 94 porsche 968. im taking a break from wetsanding to do some more wetsanding =P i love thi$ lol.
we did a full interior clean & treat with 303 & full leasther masters kit.
hood & roof wetsand with 2500 to remove acid water stains. wetsand wing 2000, 2500 to remove orange peel & restore color. rest of the car gets a 2 step polish. thought this car was sexy & i loves me some old porsches so i started taking pics of her! heres 1!

& this is how i attempt to keep track of my wetsanding steps. make a childish drawing & write down the steps. cross & check them off as i finish that step. try to break the job down in sections. finish the sections & move on to another "section" of the car to work on.

i promise promise to get some after shots under halogens by the next night or so. i will get back on the porsche in the morning.

chat with yall later. =)

Holy cow that sure is a ton of work. Just the amount of clean up alone is going to take quite a bit of time. Are you keeping track of the amount of hours your spending on it?

Sounds like you've spent a lot of time on the car. Good thing you looked the whole car over so you could see all the issues and where you need to pay extra close attention

I would like to see the Porsche too
