Prestone Wax

A cheaper option might be Hi-Temp's Paint Perfection Glaze. I'm not sure how it compares, but here is what DETAILKING had to say about it when the subject of hi-temp products came up.

"I have used......

the one step "paint perfection" sealant, and also their tire dressing. For bulk generic detailing products, it's pretty good stuff at a nice price. The sealant had a nice shine, easy to use, average durability, perfect for the pro waxer........."

So anyway, I'm feeling bad right now because I feel I have been pulling you all the wrong directions. Patrick was right to do more investigating before suggesting a product. It sounds as though you have had the car professionally compounded and polished recently. If that is the case, I'd be surprised if the problem was due to lack of prep work, but I could be wrong.

It sounds like Patrick knows Klasse better than I [who doesn't know it at all, just heard raves], and is probably right on saying that there are some other less-expensive, more-avaliable products available. According to the consumer reports test, Nu Finish paste was the top rated wax for durability, and is readily available. It is also known for it's harsh cleaners, something people around autopia aren't really in favor of in a wax.

Ahh, there I go suggesting a product again..bringing more confusion into the mess. Especially things I haven't tested! What I have tested is Turtle Wax Finish 2001 topped with S100...I like it, I think it has good benefits including ease of use, durability, and appearance.

I need serious help...step away from the keyboard, Kev, just step away...

Thanks for all your expertize, i don't mind the huge load of informations and they are very good. For now, i will stick with the 24 karat waxing product that i had, but eventually, i would have to change to another more long lasting, that is my main objective. Winter is coming so i have time to learn for the next spring

I'm glad to hear you are using the info to broaden your knowledge, not overwhelm yourself. Happy product hunting.

Kev.

Ok, here goes, I wrote Prestone and inquired about their new synthetic carnauba sealant......It contains no cleaner, there shipping me a coupon for $3 off....I will do a complete write up on it in the near future....Keep in mind, Im an avid Blackfire user, believer! So it is up against a proven winner.......

Im not looking for a replacement, but have been real curious about this stuff ever since i saw it......

WOW! talk about initiative, i really want to know your input after the trial. Shine wise, i think it is pretty good like the consumer report says, but i never tested on the durability (the only factor i was looking for) since i didn't went throught with it.

Are you refering to the article from consumerreports article that i joined with my post ? Prestone was on 2nd place for overall.

Hey BlueShark.

It's kind of eerie reading this thread because I went through pretty much the same sequence you did. I never paid much attention to waxing until I got my WRX. I learned a little from the forums at www.nasioc.com and based on that got the Prestone just because it was the only thing that claimed to be synthetic in the AutoZone that I went to. You might be interested in reading the thread from back then. The same Patrick who has participated in this thread was nice enough to encourage me. You can see a before and after on the second page of that thread here. I think it came out just fine. It didn't last that long though.

After putting it on I started coming here to Autopia. I was interested in learning more and was especially interested in durability. I bought a copy of the wax test from http://www.gurureports.org/. I'm really glad I did that because it was interesting. Their testing is more rigorous and relevant than CRs, and they report how each did on several dimensions. CR basically decided to weight cost per oz heavily enough to knock out Klasse. I wouldn't have weighted that so high to begin with, but especially considering how little it takes to do a car.

Anyway the Prestone didn't last very long. I switched to Klasse based on the durability perfomance in the wax test and because Zaino (the other durability champ) sounded like too much of a hassle. I love it. I had no problems with it. That's probably because I carefully read jimwh's instructions (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12590). The key is to use very little. Layering the Sealer Glaze (SG) is nice too.

My gallery has two post-Klasse pics in it (http://www.autopia.org/gallery/show...=500&si=&perpage=24&sort=7&stype=&ppuser=9245)

I like this one the best:

(I am also very flattered to get a nice comment from scottwax on that one. He's a great poster on Autopia).

So basically, I took the same journey as you and I think you'll be very happy with the Klasse twins and made the right decision.

I hope it works out as well for you.

boy, reading your post, it's like reading in my own future, i'm in search now for the klasse kit online after little tries on waxes. Durability, durability, durability is my main focus, so obviously, synthetic or polymer seems to be the way to go. I will wax but very occasionnally don't get me wrong. This famous gurureport, i would really like to see it or a less the rating of products and comments.

thanks for the input.
