Saw the pre-order was available on AG and called Ray. He recommended the long neck and have my confirmation. Very excited!!
 
Thanks Angus. Figure it will come in handy for all of the exotics I am not working on.

And as you pointed out on a different thread, my Avatar already has one, albeit a short neck one. ;)
 
Going to grab the long neck when it goes up for sale on here today too. I'd call but I'm busy pretending to be on a conference call about something that doesn't affect me :P
 
I would like to have one and have the money at the moment. Not sure if I can justify $600 on it though. Tough pill to swallow.

It actually was a long neck that I "edited" into a short neck to better fit the avatar size requirements.

Very cool tool but 500$ + is a ton of money unless your an every day pro, for those guys its probably a prudent investment.

2 questions

1. Can you use Connect membership on this, mostly thinking of the 10 percent discount but also the double reward points is nice.

2. (this is more for Rupes) Was or Is there a reason they put the voltage conversion part of the ac/dc adapter at the tool end and not at the plug in end. Ergonomically I would think it would be better at the other end with its size. My guess's would be either running the DC current up a cord is troublesome or inefficient???? other reason would be maybe the weight helps balance the tool same as the battery does????
 
I saw the preorder "special" here on Autopia. Is the Nano really going to jump that much after the "special" price goes away? Wow!

That would make you pucker! I am thinking the retail value of the of all the separate parts is that price and the kit may be 20-50 more than it is now. But that is a total guess, If I remember corectly they will be selling the tool separately at some point also.

I can answer this one. (I'm not an electrical engineer but I play one at work. Oh wait, that's right - I am an electrical engineer. ;) ) For DC power transmission, depending on how much current is needed, the cable between the DC source and end point becomes very important. If enough current is needed, the cable will need to be thicker and/or shorter to minimize the power loss by the cable - given off in the form of heat (i.e., it gets hot). As it is thicker, it becomes heavier, stiffer and more expensive. (Note - The same is true for AC but to a much less degree.) It is more efficient & cost effective to keep things AC as long as you can except for low power situations.

Same reason it is AC to your house instead of DC. Thank you Nikola Tesla.
