Practicing With Rotary!

I was in the garage last night til 11:30 and I am loving the rotary more and more. I am gonna have to get me a backing plate for th 4" pads. Can I use the 4" pads I use on the PC. I still see some small scratches in the paint. Am I just being "ANAL" considering it is a daily driver pickup that sees lots of backroads and such. 80-90% correction feasible? I appreciate all the input and just motivates me more.

It seems like you've got the right idea, working with a least aggressive method and moving from there. I recommend that you try a heavier compound & more agressive pad on those particular Random Deep Scratches, otherwise they may require wet sanding.

I'll give you respect for working on a truck, it's always a challenge.

My best advice regarding photography of paint imperfections is buying a good halogen. It's not only mandatory for good paint correction, but for photos as well. White is especially difficult to see, even with a light.

I remember an old 80s white truck somebody here detailed, it was the smoothest paint on a white car that I have ever seen, it was a photo of a hood... anybody remember that? Was almost a year ago now... Maybe 6 months.

I have a good halogen light. The areas i'm referring to you can't really see unless your really looking for them and being white pretty much not there in the sunlight. Where can I get the Edge kit for my Makita rotary? I will definitely get pics when completely finished and in the sunlight. Thx guys.:waxing:

The Edge 2000 Buffing & Polishing Pads

Pretty hard to beat their prices. Even though they say that the six inch pads are "for DA use", you can safely use them with your rotary. The Edge 2k Adaptor will work on any size Edge 2k pad. And just to change things up a bit, I'm not going to go on my "you really need to get wool pads" rant. Nope, not gonna do it. Not prudent at this juncture.

I have a wool pad that I am using but it is the one that came with the Makita so I am sure it probably isn't top quality. Is there anything wrong with not washing pads in between polishing. Say I use them tonight and don't get to work on truck again for few nights. Can I use them after they have sat as long as I use same product on each pad? I do need to buy the spur tool also. Getting more expensive by the day. LOL.

Regarding more aggressive compound: I am using HiTemp products as in the pic. The 357 Magnum is supposed to take out 800 grit scratches so I thought that would be plenty with the wool pad at speed 3 on the Makita. I have the Extreme Cut (600 grit) but afraid it is too much.
