ppcl not coming off mom's hood

my mom came down for thanksgiving. she was always commenting about how nice my cars looked and wondered if i could make her 98 red f150 look as good as my cars.well since my cars have been kept up for awhile now. when i get new products i have no problem applying them to my camry. i used to have a black car and about 2 years ago i bought the pinnacle Souveran kit. since i don't have a dark or red car anymore i was excited about how good looking her car was going to look. i washed w/ dawn just to get a clean surface and to take anything my mom had put on it in the past 3 years, clayed w/mothers clay, and then ppcl. i did about a 2x2 area, but before i could put down my pad and pick up the mf towel the stuff dried so hard on the finish i couldn't get it off even w/ some elbow grease. i was so embarrased. i had told her how the truck was going to look immaculate after i was done and then i couldn't even get the ppcl off. i asked her if she had put on anything weird besides turtlewax, she said no. could it be that there is something still on the hood or does the ppcl go bad after awhile, i haven't used it for awhile.

hey waxingfool, if you haven't already gotten it off the hood, try putting a little dab of ppcl on a rag and reapplying in that one area. then before it gets a chance to dry up, wipe it off. i used to have a lot of problems with ppcl dryong up too fast and staying caked on. it's a P.I.T.A. to get that stuff off. try that above, it always worked for me. hope it helps.:up

i guess i should have said i was able to get it off by claying it again. but then tried it again to no avail. i had never had the problem on my car . that is way i was so stumped. i again clayed the 2nd attempt of ppcl. and just left it alone i have the truck until sunday morn. i would think after claying twice i would have no problem.

You mentioned that you bought a Pinnacle kit a couple of years ago . . . did the PPCL come with that kit? Is it possible that the product has exceeded its shelf-life, or froze at some time or another?

Just a shot in the dark,

Tort

yes it did come w/ the kit. that's what i was wondering, could it be too old, has anyone had a problem w/ shelflife of ppcl. i had just used on my car a couple months ago and had no probem. it has never been frozen i keep my supplies inside the laundry room @ room temp.

Waxing,

Another way to test(although I am sure you might be hesitant to do so) is to wipe a small spot of the PPCL on another car, or even on a metal surface. See if the PPCL comes off clean. I have not heard of anyone having problems with PPCL before. Might be something on the f-150 is causing this, can't really say.

At least this way you can tell if it is the product, or the car's surface. I would say apply the PPCL on another car in a very out of the way spot, and only use a small amount.

You could try it on your kitchen faucets or other metal surface and then see if it comes off easily.

Hard to say with out seeing and touching the clear, but it is over 3 years old and has been subjected to enviormental contamination.

Do you have the Radio Shack magnifier?

Use the cigarette wrapper cellophane to "feel" the clear.

Claying will not solve the concern I think is there.

The clear is "swollen" and the porusity is increased by the pollutants.

At least that is usually what cause this sort of concern.

To remove what you have on at present, soak it with rubbing alcohol and then wipe off.

Best I can do from afar.

Try to mist some distilled water on the dried residue. Then try buffing it off.

It sure works for getting 3M FI II residue off and Klasse SG.

Tap water will work just as well, Jason, since you are not going to allow it to dry on the surface and leave the small amount of minerals on the surface.

Plus, tap water has very little minerals in it anyway.

Just a thought.

Thinking about perfection and Autopian 'standards'

Tap water should work fine as Ron K. pointed out.

I don't trust my tap water (NYC), sure may have won some water tasting contests in the past 10 years, but I always boil my water before I drink it.

Its probably just me,

:up

Overseas, drink only bottled water, or it better have some Jack Daniels in it! (will kill off any "bugs" in the water.

I have become so picky that I even use only water that has been through my Brita for my coffee!

I understand the whole overseas thing. Quality control is an issue. Jack Daniels to the rescue (I do not recommend drinking often, but every now and then its ok.) Myabe an ounce of Jack in a glass of soda once every few months.

I like coffee, but love Cappucino and French Vanilla.

Well back to the topic,

Please let us know how the PPCL worked out and the Souveran on the red Ford!

raining here today and truck will not fit into my garage (it is too slanted) anyway thanks for all the tips i will try to work on it tommorow. probably will wait to use the sov @ christmas when i go to see her (northern ky) maybe to cold. i will try the cigarette wrapper test. she said she used the PRO brand wax on it last. actually a detailer in her town did. i think this is decent stuff and shouldn't hurt her clear.has anybody here ever used it? but probably from the abuse of not cleaning it but once a year(if that).

I'd wipe with a damp towel, you maybe want to even wash the car, because PPCL is a cleaner and there's no advantage to having any PPCL residue whatsoever. Try using a microfiber if possible. HTH-Steve

BTW, water drying on the towel, leaves behind mineral deposits and we certainly don't want precipitates on our towels ;) :D

gotta love the NYC water

Here in Mayberry, I mean Newbury, our neighbor hood taps into the water table. It makes for nice clean water. I buy my distilled water to put in sprayer bottles :)

100% correct. Any water used for cooking/drinking are boiled first.

I only drink either boiled water or bottled water, 99% of the time. Well I sometimes drink from the water fountain on the base when I do physical training (buts thats only once a month, the other time I bring my own water.)

Later buddy,

Jason

I only drink bottled water too. Arrowhead or Crystal Geyser tastes the best... Sparkletts tastes like tap. Our dirty (and hard)tap water also leaves lots of water spots.
