Powergloss vs. Optimum Compound

I agree with Sean on the PG, it is my go to product after wet sanding. It removes blemishes easily and does not require much polishing there after. I do when using PG though mask/tape all moldings and glass to avoid dust and some splatter. Hope this helps

So I guess I should try to send back the compound and try to get the new version?

The "old" version compound is still a great product for use with either the Cyclo or PC. In that aspect it gets more done than the Polish. I am doing a GT right now and the Compound is working fantastic on the marring, removing what OCP can't.

So I would keep that bottle handy.

Then, do you think that Optimum Compound is a good product for using with the yellow PAD and the PC and remove swirl marks and scratches?

I heard that Menzerna PG is not good for orbitals, is better for rotatives.

I've only PC.

I've also the 1z line (UPP, PP and MP).

Thanks !!

PG is slightly more aggresive than Hyper Compound - though both finish down extremely well with a rotary. PG does dust quite a bit though whereas OHC does not. Both are must-haves.

Optimum's Hyper Compound is a better choice than the compound for moderate to heavy defect removal. Minimal hazing with the PC, no dusting to speak of.

And do you think PG is better than OHP? Is for using via PC and yellow Propel PADs.

Thanks :up

I personally hate the yellow pads....I feel they are far too aggressive and create too much heat. I am of course speaking about using it with a rotary and not a PC. I don't use a PC and since I also don't use the yellow pads I am unable to comment on how effective that combo is. I can though guess and my guess would be that the new Hyper Compound would be the better choice for PC work over the PG.

No competition IMO.

OPT Compound doesn't cut any harder than OPT Polish via rotary IMO. I have tested them side by side.

Powergloss, on the other hand, cuts up everything very quick. It levels swirls with ease and leaves very little haze for a compound. Follow it with a light polish and you're set. There is no middle step when using Powergloss. The only thing I don't like is the dusting, but any "true" compound will dust.

Well what am I doing wrong then. I have used it with a rotary and a PC and it seems to "gum up" very quickly and then its a b!tch to remove. Any tips?

There is no doubt that you are a superior detailer, but in my experience OC cuts way better than OP. I'll try my new bottle of OHC tomorrow. :D :xyxthumbs :woohoo:

I just polished my car for the first time in 3 years (first time ever actually). I used optimum polish on my hood x 3 with green propel pad. That finally removed the water marks and swirl marks. That took to long. After experimenting with a more agressive pad and OP still with insufficient results I went with OC with the yellow propel pad and THAT did the trick. It did remove micro marring and swirls etc much more effectively than the OP did. After I finished I went over the car with OP with the green propel pad. Since this was my first time using a PC I had to really experiment.

Never used PG so I can't answer that, sorry.

Ok, no problem.

I'm really surprised that you don't use Menzerna... I heard that Menzerna polishes are the best ones. Wih do you consider are the best?

Thanks Scott. :xyxthumbs
