Potentially serious, and frustrating, problem. Please help...

You mean in the lock cylinders? I doubt it'd be a huge issue but if it were mine I'd stick something over them just to be on the safe side. A little piece of masking tape oughta last through the wash.

Yeah that's what I meant. I did have the idea of putting a bit of tape over the hole when washing. I guess that's what I'll do.



I don't know if I have anything that small to attach to my vacuum. I thought about putting a piece of duct tape on a tiny screwdriver and attempting to pull the plastic bits out with that. But I don't have any plastic bits in the way of the cylinder right now. If a piece does get in the way, that's probably what I'll end up trying.
 
I used to use a pop bottle top on my Mustang. I had a similar problem where the metal flap wouldn't colose on the lock. (1965 car). A plastic bottle cap worked perfectly. Snapped right on and wouldn't let water in.
 
You could go to wal-mart and get the smallest tweezers they sell. I have some that I use for picking debris out of my MF that are quite tiny, and could probably fit in there.

I sure wouldn't want to somehow lose that piece of duct tape inside there, might keep you from being able to get the key in.
 
Then I'd have to stick another piece of duct tape in there to pull out the first one! :D
