Possible convert here... Meg's to Klasse (HELP =)

Okay. It's long, sorry... the questions are all listed at the end.

I'm 18, have a black 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXi w/ stock 17" chrome and stock spoiler, and am very, very much a perfectionist, my 'Bring included. Which is why I'm here.

Anyway, I've had the car for a little over a year, and have been using mostly Meg's stuff to take care of it. Last weekend I did the whole wash>dry>scratchX>#7 glaze>#26 wax (exclusively Meg's products there). Yesterday I finished coat No. 2 of Meg's #26.

Having come to the boards here for about a month, I hear a lot of praise about sealants; especially Klasse AIO and/or SG.

So, being as anal as I am w/ my 'Bring, I'm all for getting my 'Bring to be as protected, shiny, deep, reflective, (insert superlative here) as I can get it. The thing is, I hear some bad stuff about Klasse and black cars; namely, the "sterility" and swirl highlighting that it can sometimes cause (although I'm not sure what a sterile car looks like...).

Anyway, here's what I'm asking of those that have much, much more experience than myself about this stuff:

(a) These sealants ARE perfectly safe, correct?

(b) Do I really need to use the AIO? Why not just wash, clay, wash, clean, polish/glaze, and then SG?

(c) How much better is AIO + SG as compared to either by itself?

(d) Real life durability / protection?

(e) What improvement is there in layering SG?

(f) Sealants CAN be layered on top of sealants, but NOT on top of carnauba, right?

(g) How much better does a carnauba topper (P21S, I'm thinking) make the appearance?

(h) If I had five layers of SG (which I understand to be the practical limit), and then topped it w/ a few layers of P21S paste wax or #26 or whatever, what would happen to the sealant after a really, really long time? In other words, how would I maintain all that work?

So... what do you think? Should I try Klasse? (or sealants in general?)

Thanks, guys... I apologize for the length.

Klasse leaves a very bright finish... almost candy-like. However, I do not find that it creates a silver shimmer like Zaino Z-2, 3 and 5. I kust finished applying Klasse AIO on my 911. AIO is my choice of products when time is a factor. It applies very quickly. If I have more time, I use Blackfire. Even more time, I will layer up a few coats of Blackfire and follow with a coat or two of Souveran. If I'm worling on my BMW (silver), I use Zaino Z-2 because the brightness of the shine really makes the color pop.

What you're going to find is that every product acts differently depending on car color, application technique, and climate. Will layering a wax on a sealant make your car look better? That depends on a lot of factors. Do multiple coats of SQ look good over AIO... most of the time... YES. You're on the right track reading past messages to see what other people have experienced.

I can tell you that you will not be disapointed by goinf with on of the products frequently mentioned on autopia. All of them have their merits.

Well, in the pic, I guess "candy like" is a good thing.

That Porsche, by the way, is... incredible. Wow. Nice :D

What'd you do to prep it? Or does AIO (since it is "All in One") serve as a stand alone product...

And thanks a lot, I appreciate the advice.

If the paint finish is in pretty good condition, AIO will remove the minor contamination. If I have taken a long trip, like I'm getting ready to do (1,000 miles) I will clay the paint and follow with Pinacle PCL.

The candy look is mostly artificial. Here's what the car looks like with the flourecent lights off and just one row of halogen light on. People post pictures that are artificially enhanced by the overhead light.

You just happened to catch me in the garage playing with lighting for my next series of video work.

Well, still, it looks excellent. In real life, how does the Klasse AIO compare to something like #7 topped with #26? Or anything else?

I'm sure it's great along with the rest of the stuff here (like you said), but I guess what I'm wondering is if AIO + SG + (P21S maybe) worth the cost and the minor hassle of ordering it...

And thanks for the pics, as well. :p

Meg's Show Car Glaze is an excellent solution if you're looking for a short-term finish. The polish has a very large % of oils that provide great shine, but they don't last.

You'd be better off with P21S.

I'm assuming that you mean that I'd be better off with P21S over Meg's #7 (to keep those oils where they're supposed to be, right?)

Or: that, instead of 7 and 26, AIO + SG + P21S is THE way to go.

I'm guessing that you'd go the Klasse and P21S route...?

(Also, one more question: like I said, with all the stuff I did to my car last weekend, if I were to go Klasse in the next month or so, would a wash (dawn wash maybe) + AIO be sufficient for paint cleaning? And the AIO / SG would work as a glaze as well as a wax, correct...)

Since you mentioned your concerns about klasse AIO & SG on black, I thought I'd share my experience.

Some years ago, my first detailer used meguiars products. I felt something was lacking. Klasse is now used on both my black cars w/ a p21s or souveran topper. I prefer it to the meguiars (although they are great products, too).

I feel it looks outstanding on black, the carnauba adds depth and warmth, but SG by itself looks marvelous, too. The SG has great durability.

I would not let the fact that your 'bring is black scare you away.

Yeah... it's not that black scares me away, it's just that I was a little concerned with the silvering effect some people talk about. But I'm seriously thinking about ordering the AIO, SG, and P21S this week and giving it a shot. Better than 7 and 26, huh... :D :D :D

Quick (repeat?) question: on a well maintained car, AIO is sufficient as far as prep goes, right...?

Yes, AIO is all you need *if* the surface is in good shape.

Use the hand-in-ziploc bag test. First on a clean un-lubed surface, then on a lubed surface, put hand in a thin plastic baggie and lightly run fingers over surface. Judge tactile feedback for surface imperfections.

That said, at least once a year, my cars get the full clay treatment whether they need it or not.

Alrighty, you and David, thanks for all the help. Very appreciated.

I'll probably be trying Klasse in the upcoming weeks :D

I think sealants are better just because they're better protection than regular wax. I suppose you could say AIO/SG acts like a pre-wax cleaner (AIO) and glaze and wax because the SG both protects and hides minor swirls the way a glaze can, hence the name Sealant Glaze. It might take a few coats to reach the maximum filling ability though.

I would second that:up

:) I THIRD that!!!

I also initially moved from Meguiars and now have settled on klasse (after trying alot of things). I top my black car with Pinnacle souvern and the silver with PS21. LOVE THE COMBOS.;)
