Whats better--the 7336sp porter cable or 7424.About to buy and am not sure which one would best suited to my needs.Anyone with strong opinions on either of these. Need to know if its easy to get pads backing plates etc for both or is one more popular than the other.

7336sp comes with 6 ounce counterweight. 7424 comes with 5 counterweight. Everything else is basically the same. (motor tranny etc.) Depending on your backplate, some ppl have found 6cw with 5inch backplate takes vibrations noticeably down. Either way works just depends on where your buying and what pads

They are the same machine. The 7336SP comes with the 6 inch counterweight already and a little buffing pad.

7424 & 7336 are the same, aside from the 7336's 6oz counterweight. Any flexible backing plate that fits one will fit the other but the 7336 will handle a 6" plate & that plate will handle up to 7.5" foam pads.

I've read that the suggested largest backing plate for a 7424 is 5" but I'm sure there's some people here at DC that are using a 6" flexible plate.

Lighter rotating and/or oscilating mass will give less vibration on either machine but the 6oz counterweight is desireable. If you can catch a good price on a 7424, the 6oz weight can be swapped in easily.

I think the only reason the 7424 is suggested for use with a 5" plate is because it comes with the 5" counterweight. I read that some people buy the 6" counterweight for it and use the 6" backing plate.
