i am looking at ordering the porter cable 7424 polisher. is this the best model to get ? will order the kit with pads if that is the way to go. thanks jim

I got mine at CMA. Paid a lot for it. I use it all the time. If I were to do it again I would go to Home Depot or Lowe's to get it now. Then I would go to any one of a host of sponsors here on this forum and get the pads that I need not necessarily the one that are offered in a kit. I would also get a small flexible backing plate to accomodate the smaller pads plus six inch plate to use on larger pads.

Accumulator said the same thing in a post just recently. He is very experienced. I value his judgement.

Find a 10% off a Lowes and then go and get the 7336 SP and then order a Pad kit from CMA or Exceldetail. That seems like the best way to go.

I just did exactly that. Bought a 7336 from Lowes this morning and ordered some Propel pads as well as some Poorboys products from Excel. Can't wait to test it out.

The difference is that the 7336sp has a 6" counterweight and the 7424 has a 5" counterweight. Porter-Cable recommends the use of a 6" counterweight when using any pads that are 6" or bigger. I use my 6" weight with everything, including my 4" pads.
