Porter Cable advanced pads are great (my review).

hmm now I worry about "concave" shape. It does make sense that flat pads seem better since 100% contacting the paint. but I look at the regular CMA pads, orange pad, advanced one, their styles are all concave. but it says

"concave "dish" also gives the operator more control over the pad area that comes in contact with the work surface and the ability to vary pad pressure to obtain the desired polishing results."



Since it's only $1 difference (6" and 7.5" pad), I'll probably get 1 each for cutting and polish.

how about Orange pad? anybody recommend? I need to order by tonight.

The orange pad is a great pad BUT again the PC will not be able to take full advantage of the orange pads potential. One needs a rotary for that.

I bought 2 yellow and 2 white of these new 7" pads (sort of by mistake) and used them this weekend on my dad's S70 (for pics see here http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21035). These pads really are very good.



First, the velcro it attached much better, it is bonded to a plastic "cup" which is then recessed into the pad. The connection from the pad to the velcro "cup" and the velcro to the PC is very secure. I didn't machine wash them, but I'm sure they'd stand up fine. The recessed nature of the cup is nice as it keeps the backing plate hidden and away from your paint.



Second, the larger area is nice as you can cover more area. It does make getting into tight areas a little more diffcult, but as originally noted, you can tilt it on it's edge a little for those areas. Note with the recessed velcro "cup", there is no fear of hitting the paint with the BP. I noticed no problems with the PC bogging down or stuggling with the larger pad, nor did it overheat. I tend not to bear down too much (~10 lbs of pressure) and prefer to let the pad and product do the work, so that may have some affect. Also the as others have noted, the concave nature of the pad probably also helps.



Third, the overall construction just seems to be better. While I've only done one car so far with these new pads, I'll let you know how they hold up.



Overall, I think that they are well worth the extra $1.



Mildseven: I've never used a flat pad, but with proper PC use, you'll have no problems with coverage and the concave pad.



If anyone is interested I can take some close up pics tonight to better explain my descriptions. Let me know.

I think this may be right, since a few people I've talked to suggest the VC design over the Meguiar's flat faced design. In my limited use of the Megs pads so far I've found it tricky to hold the pads perfectly flat on the paint without causing an annoying vibration (noise) from intermittent contact. I imagine if I pressed down harder this would be lessened but...
 
If you buy the delux pc kit from CMA, the new advanced pads are what you will get ( or at least they are what you got). I never had the older pads, so I can't compare, but these pads worked great. I used dacp with the yellow and 3m smr with the white. In the back of my mind though I was thinking I would have a little more control with a smaller pad, but no complaints other than that.:up
 
I bought these pads from TOL and they are great. Better construction and they clean up very nicely. They do NOT drag more than the 6" flat or concave pads. I'm sold, and at TOL's price, they are a bargain.
