5,000-12,000 opm. Sounds similar to the Griots and Dewalt but is only 79.74 at Amazon. I know it doesn't have a removable backing plate but what other potential downsides does this have vs the 7424? It seems to have a higher rotational speed. After double checking the specs it only has a 2.4 amp motor-not as high amp rating as the 7424.

:think2 Might as well get the one I have if you're okay with not having a removable backing plate. 4000-12000 OPM, and only $45. I haven't used it yet (waiting for spring :( ), so I can't give any opinions on it yet.

the Firestorm should work ok depending on the amp rating. The higher the amp rating the less it should bog during polishing. After using it post your results.

It's got 4 amps. Unfortunately I am a complete newb to polishing so I really don't have anything to compare it to, but I'll try my best to post my results.

I plan on picking one of the firestorms this weekend if I can find any pads locally. I've never used anything better than a Craftsman r/o, but I have a pretty solid idea of how to use a da for polishing. Luckily for the experiment, I just picked up an old beater that's pretty much pink.

Here's a small pic to illustrate

My apologies for running out of daylight. Doing a car like this by hand really sucks. I only got the roof and hood done. Unfortunately, I didn't have many choices for products. However, it was cheap and I really don't care. If I gotta spray bomb it, so be it. I have another formerly red car I can practice on also. :D
