Porsches...

Is there any specific recommendation for complete preparation for first waxing of a 996. I am going to take delivery of a lapis blue 996TT at the end of june and want to prepare and wax the car. If the car is painted to order is it too soon to detail? If so, how long should I wait before detailing the car?

I figured I would clay, polish, glaze and wax. The lapis blue is a darker metallic blue (but not as dark as midnight). I was thinking P21S for the final coat, but am very confused as to which products to use for the initial prep.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nothing special here. The paint job quality is superb, but the paint itself not as good as the old environment-unfriendly acrylics of the 80's. You can work with the paint right away, too.

I've seen Lapis with Zaino as well as only P21S and both looked terrific. I'm a Klasse fan here, and that's definitely what I'd use on a new car. If it was me I'd think about skipping the clay and the polish and just do a wash and Klasse AIO/SG treatment.

Most importantly, make sure you tell your dealer to NOT detail your car!

I would wait n see whats the paints like first.

Baggie test it and go from there.

Some dealers dont always look after their stock too good (water spots) , and if its shipped by rail expect plenty of ferrite dust.

I think the most important step mentioned here is to explicitly tell the dealer not to touch the vehicle. It will look like crap when you get it. I would recommend a good wash, clay, then go right to glaze and wax/sealant. It will look better than the dealer could do. IMO, Pinnacle Souveran would absolutely look dynamite on that car, but P21S will look equally wonderful. Klasse is a great product for protecting the investment and then add a caranuba topper and make sure you put on the  because it's gonna look :shocked!

I agree with the above comment on telling the dealer to stay far far away from that paint, they can be ruthless sometimes. I would also suggest you get some Stoneguard or X-pel for the front of the car as Porsche paint is soft and the Turbo draws a ton of stones with its intakes. I detailed an '03 with 36 miles on it the other day and the car already had 27 small chips concentrated around the front intakes!!!! If you are not sure about using a polomer or carnauba, here is a pic of a Lapis Blue '02 Turbo with Zymol Carbon on it, maybe someone else can post a picture of a Lapis Blue with Zaino or Klasse on it...

I've never seen a brand new car that did not need claying and a little polishing, and I've detailed dozens of new cars.

I like the original poster's idea and product selection. I assume he mentioned those products because he already has them. If not, then obviously he can buy whatever he likes.

The "new car detail" system I follow is:

Wash

Clay

Light polish (P21S cleanser would be a great choice)

Wax

I don't think a glaze step is needed but that of course is up to the owner to decide. The car should look spectacular afterwards.

I have to agree with BoxsterCharlie, and tell the dealer not to touch the paint. No wash, wax, treatments, nada...

I wouldnt think that the car would require much claying, but by the same token i dont think it would hurt either. I am about to undertake the same mission and do a complete Klasse AIO/SG, and Pinacle Paste Glaz treatment on my '03 TT (Polar Silver). For a darker colored car such as yours, i would think P21s or Souveran would be the best way to go.

Also, i would suggest doing yourself a favor and remove the rims from the car and treat them with a sealant as well. It should make your routine maintenance easier as well.

[rant]You people are really starting to irritate me, why do all of you get Porsches, and I don't? Is there some Autopian discount I am unaware of? Help a poor college graduate out! [/rant]

I will be waiting patiently for my GT3 to arrive when it is released in the U.S.:D

Feel free to surprise me by delivering it to me at work.

By the way Dr. G, congrats. You are more than welcome to take me for a ride, I will grant you that privilege.;)
