Porsche Turbo got some shine

So, what is it that Lojack does? Doesn't it help locate a stolen car? Why do the police and detectives find it useless? What about insurance companies? Do they give a discount if the Lojack system is in place on a vehicle?

I'm not familiar with how boomerang works, some vehicle recovery systems are better than others.... But lojack is TRASH! It's been around so long, thieves know how and where to find the brain, they can disable it in no time flat. So, unless you discover your car missing almost immediately (with an hour), lojack is pretty useless... Assuming it's been taken by a pro thief who wants to ship it out of the country or completely dismantle it. If your car is taken by some punk hood for a joyride, then yes, lojack will likely get your car back.

Also lojack can not detect a car undereground or well covered...This comes straight from the cop who dealt with my car theft.

I see, the crooks already know how to disable lojack. Are there other tracking systems available in the U.S.? With the Boomerang, they claim to be able to track a vehicle anywhere in North and South America (if I'm remembering right.). They won't talk much about how it works or where they locate them in your car.

Boomerang uses the same technology as Lojack I think. Boomerang uses cell phone technology, so you have the same problem. The crooks all know that if a car has boomerang, to immediately drive the car into a deep underground garage or into a shipping crate. Cell phone coverage negated, now they can take their time and find the sender and disable it.

The reality is no matter what you have, a real pro really wanting your car is going to get it, unless you are James Bond and can get the car to self destruct. But using a combination of methods, such as a club, an ignition cutoff, and an alarm system, can discourage most casual thefts.

Exxxxxxxxxxxactly what I've been saying!!!

GM's ON STAR! It has a tracking device on it, but they dont say that it can be used for recovering vehicles, plus it only wirks when ignition is on, but it is tracable.:)

I guess Acura has contracted out some plans for their venhicles from GM. So in Acuras too I guess!

When I leave the car for a week or more, like atthe airport, I pu the car in "store mode" And unless you change it, by the right combinations, you cannot start the car! (Cadillac)

I was told at the place that installed my Boomerang that it was not the same technology as Lojack. I just know that a car theft ring was recently caught in Montreal because they stole a decoy vehicle with Boomerang.

I fully agree with the second paragraph above. All you can do is slow 'em down and discourage them.

Tip #3 -- Do not leave valuables visible in your car. Cameras, laptop computers, purses, wallets and packages are all very encouraging for a would-be thief. Cover your valuables up with a coat or blanket, or put them in the trunk.

Put them in the trunk - don't cover them - they will break into the car to steal the coat (wallet etc) or whats been hidden under the blanket.

If you are leaving the car in a high risk area leave the glovebox open (make sure the light isn't on) and if you have a hatchback, remove the parcelshelf so that the trunk area can be seen to be empty.
