I am detailing a black 1990 Porsche Carrera tommorow and I am curious if it is a single stage or base/clear. If it is base/clear how is the clear that Porsche uses, is it hard, soft etc... I am just trying to figure out my plan of attack. Thanks
 
To test if clear or not take some cleaner wax and rub it on an inconspicuous area, if you see paint transfer its ss.

I believe Porsche paint is Glasurit, arguable the finest paint out there. Not sure if Porsche always used Glasurit. I suspect it is moderate to soft, I'd be surprised if it is anything like modern Audi or worse, Mercedes Ceramiclear.

Great minds think alike! Anyhow, thanks for the advise I was thinking about that when I was checking the car out. The owner does quite a bit of road racing in it and it has some moderate spider webbing and swirls, but all in all in damn fine condition for 14 years old! I will post some before and afters when I get it done.
 
I recently did a 996 track car and yes they're probably 10 years apart BUT the paint on this porsche was very easy to work with and correct yet not overly soft and subject to maring. I guess that was the best way to describe it. Here are links to the detail. The paint was pretty clean and only required SSR1 and a polish pad to remove the defects...then again there was nearly no swirls but there was some pretty good surface haze probably caused from the track abuse.

Well the detail went awesome today! I snapped some pics afterward, but no befores because of poor lighting. I will post of the pics later tonight or tommorow.
