Porsche Design Special Edition Cayman- Detail by seech and KC

Woke up early one Saturday morning to detail one of the first and possibly only one of its kind in Malaysia with my buddy KC.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Supercharged Porsche 993? Ferrari F355? Could it be the Porsche Cayman?

Not just any Cayman but... a Porsche Design Edition 1 Cayman.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

From this...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

To this...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We were told by the owner that this was possibly the first and only Porsche Design Cayman in the country.

No. 571 out of 777 worldwide.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

What's special about this special edition? Alcantara steering wheel, gear lever and headliner.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Porsche 911 Turbo wheels.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Solid red rear lights.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Porsche Design Edition 1 Aluminum Kick Plates.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Porsche umbrella...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And distinctive matt black Porsche Design stripes.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The condition of the car before. Not too bad with just a light coat of dust.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

What about swirls you say? It is black after all...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

While waiting for KC to arrive, I started off with an Optimum No Rinse (ONR) wash and clay with ONR lube.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Halfway through KC finally arrived and started work on the wheels, I'll leave it to him to post more details on that, while I started polishing the kick plates and exhaust tips with Optimum Metal Polish.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The owner was very particular about not damaging the Porsche Design stripes so they were taped up before compounding.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The paint was in pretty bad shape with swirls and many deep Random Isolated Deep Scratches (RIDS).

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After evaluating the paint and doing a test spot, KC and I realized that this was going to be another long day...

Multiple passes of Meguiars M105 with Lake Country double sided wool pad were required to remove most of the severe defects.

While KC was compounding, I followed behind with Optimum Polish II with Meg's 2.0 Polishing Pad and a Makita 9227C rotary.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

50/50. Pretty good results with just the M105 and OPII.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Mirrors were polished with OPII.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

KC working between the stripes.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The finish looked pretty good after M105/OPII but as this was black, we did not want to take any chances and went over the entire car again with Optimum Finish and Meg's 2.0 Finishing Pad with a rotary.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The paint was sealed with Opti-Seal followed by a coat of Optimum Car Wax. The afters...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

No engine bay detailing required... its under there somewhere.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It had been a long, hot and humid day until...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now it was a WET, long, hot and humid day...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Opti-Seal and Optimum Car Wax combo left the paint with a deep mirror like finish.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My favorite part of the car... curves.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The glossy paint look great against the matt black stripes.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

More curves...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Mirror like finish.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Our next assignment once we recover from this detail... Porsche 997 GT3.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Cool job guys. I love Porsche Design...not a huge fan of the stripes of the car...but PD usually hits everything else out of the park for me! Nice work on the depth of shine and finessing the details (working in between the stripes).

It was another challenge fun day out with Seech...otherwise my detailing life will be very very dull

no work on stripes at all?

Nice work! Did you use anything on the stripes?

Ah yes, the stripes. The owner was very specific about protecting the stripes so they were taped off for compounding and polishing. This took quite some time and a lot of tape to carry out. We were able to compound and polish in between the stripes with the smaller pads.

Some of the stripes had some scratches on them but they came out quite easily during the finishing step with Optimum Finish. (I really like to use this as a finishing polish with its long work time, no dust and very nice finishing ability.) As the OF and the finishing pad would have very minimal cut I decided that it would have been pretty safe to finish off the area including the stripes. It turned out pretty good and the owner was quite happy that the scratches on the stripes were removed as well.
