Porsche 996 Silver Gray - Frequent Driver

This car belongs to one of my Ferrari customers and is his frequent driver (except for snow). He bought it to the shop for a full detail prior to winter. The exterior was "ok" but lacked the sparkle of a full detail. The interior was coated in oily Griot's junk...ugh.

First off, remove the Lowenhart wheels. Nice forgings BUT really terrible inner rims! They just put a cheap primer coat on these and the brake dust was a bear to remove.

Wheels before

Meg's Hot Rims followed by APC + Liquid Soap + hot water and brushes worked.

While the wheels were off, I tackled the wells with APC + hot water, brushes and rags

After

On to the paint. It had a few scratches and moderate light scratching from washing, etc.

This car see's a lot of driving, so I tackled the paint with Meg's 83 on a yellow polish pad (the diamond pattern So1o pad and backing plate). That works well on my Dynabrade as well as my Festool 150 and has become my favorite set of pads. I put about 6 hours in the paint polishing process followed by Z2 and a Z8 wipedown.

Next up is a BMW for full reconditioning, then a Ford GT Gulf Oil edition.

How in the world did you get all that brake dust off?

Meguiar's Hot Rims and let the rims dwell for approx. 1 minute. Then rinsed with hot water and followed that with scrubbing using a soft nylon brush + apc + soapy water. Then another rinse.

The problem with this wheel is the manufacture only applied a cheap gray primer coat to the inner rim, so I had to use some caution: the soft brush, not letting the Hot Rims or apc stay on too long, etc.

Looks really nice. :)

You went from #83 straight to Z2, you don't expect any sealant bonding issues with this?

Actually, I go from 83 to a wash. That removes dust and provides a super clean surface for Z2 (or any of the Z products) to bond properly.

That looks great. Can you go into more specifics about how you got the insides of the wheels so clean? Thanks!
