Porsche 356 Speedster – Complete Appearance Restoration

Great car and wonderful job detailing it, you sure made the silver paint pop! Fantastic job on the interior as well. Much appreciated how you show every step, product and process.... Love the tips on using the micro-mesh papers, as well as the link to them. These are the kind of detailing tips we count on the top guys in the industry to give us. Thanks.

As Jeremy Clarkson would say,"shiny little beetle!" But he's not that into Porches. Me? I like those classic old cars, the looks, the form, if I just could pick those damn 6 numbers.

Fantastic! I've got a blue 356 coming up next month and this just makes me more excited for it.

Fantastic job David. The interior changeover was really good too.

Not every day you give kudos on a Click N Brag so I'll take that as a compliment for sure. Thanks Ron! :bow

Did you clay, then use micro mesh?

Usually, but on this car there was very little contaminants to knock down so I didn't do it. The sandpaper stripped everything from the paint and then some!

I see lot's of work coming your way.

Car looks amazing...I'm simply in awe!

Thanks Dean! I actually did this car almost 2 years ago. I'm finally getting around to posting some write ups. I've got atleast 50-60 more on tap. Just gotta find the time. I envy all those guys who can knock down write ups all the time.

I could totally see you skirting down the road with Mrs. June Bug having a blast going to a Porsche Cars & Coffee! :car:

Thanks for the compliment Jeff. Very much appreciated! Good luck on the 356. They are really fun to do and them being small is another bonus!

Very nice result! David, how old was the paint?

Thanks Jimmy! This car has had several spot in's thoughout it's life. Some paint was single stage and others BCCC. I'm not sure how old this paint is, but it is still quite healthy. Here's a peek at one spot in:

When you do a correction such as this on a older classic ,do you normally use a paint gauge before starting or ?

Not on this car. Like I said above, there's been quite a bit of paint work on this car and there is no way to tell exactly where you stand. and in actuality, I doubt that significant of an amount was even removed. Especially with the sanding process.

Great job David! Thanks for posting!!

Thanks michakaveli! You are very :welcome

Nice! I enjoyed the writeup. Scale model car builders have been using the micro-mesh papers for years, up to 12,000 grit. The sheets are only like a few inches square though.

Thanks Concourswanna b - You're right, Micro Mesh makes tons of different variations of paper. From rolls of paper, to sheets, finger pads and even swabs. Their stuff rocks!

Wow what a great turnaround, how did you find the paint on a classic Porsche - was it original ?

Thanks JJ! Paint was great to work with actually. And no, unfortunately, this car has seen its fair share of body shop over the decades. The owner has no plans to restore it at this time as he uses the heck out of it on a regular basis.
