Popular products that didn't work out for you

Wolgang Polishing Pal - Bulky and cumber some to use, lose the feel you have of a hand foam pad.

:shocked That's one of my favorite products ever! It's bulky, but it allows you to fly around the car applying an LSP without any worry of dropping the foam pad.

Seems i am not alone with OCP...

With a white pad it has no bite at all, and with an orange pad, i think it only is aggressive enough to remove my Zaino.

I liked the Woflgang polish and sealant. I felt for the sealant to be as nice as first applied you must atleast re-apply bi-weekly or apply after each wash.

I was disappointed with 1Z Glanz Wax. Still have it and use it, but does not produce the pop and look I want nor do I feel it protects enough.

Pinnacle Wax for Dark Colored cars, goes on great looks great just to pricey. Still use it though as a topper on red.

Poor Boys EX has worked great for me and will continue using it.

Hugely disappointed with the Sonus SFX 1, 2, 3 PITA to remove

Zaino was okay, nothing made me want it again though I feel PB EX gives a better shine

#16 I have two tins I use and love

NXT good for covering super small swirls, easy on and off no durability in my opinion.

Pinnacle Tire GEL, THE BEST MOST LONG LASTING STUFF I USED.

This is the type of thread that auto detailing forums were made for. Not to bash the products, but to see true opinions of products that are sometimes "overhyped".

Actually, I think that paint color and or product compatibility has a great deal to do with what works well / doesn't for some

-KLASSE SG - I actually thought to myself, who would make something this difficult to use?

-I wish NXT lasted longer than it does

-NXT GLASS CLEANER makes the glass look clean for a day...but the next day, the glass becomes streaky?

-the BACKING PLATE that comes in wolfgang's 4" set - totally useless

(btw - if looking for 1, get TOL's)

-FLITZ metal polish - no abrasives hahahahah! tell my wheels that

-PINNACLE SOUVERAN - good , but imo not $50 good

i may add to this post later, as I have wasted $100's on supplies this year.

BTW...I don't detail for a living. i use these on my own car.

Hmm, has there ever been a product that didn't disapoint, failing to live up to the wild marketing claims?

But there are some biggies that really stand out to me in their failures to deliver. Two in particular.

Meguires Gold Class Carnuba Wax. Matt finish, god awfull to work with, gone in 60 seconds. This is the product that pushed me over the edge and got me here.

Mothers Back-to-Black vinyl treatment. Milky water that does nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Great thread I'm glad I put off buying some of the products. Would you guys please post wheather your car is a DD ( daily driver ) or garage queen, that also would help. My cars are outside 24/7/365. The following gets my thumbs down.

NXT TECH WAX duriability sucks and is a dust magnet. Have to reapply every 4-5 wks. Decent shine.

#9 Swirl Remover creates too much dust. Does not remove swirls more like fills them.

#7 Show Car Glaze leaves alot of oil that I must go around car 2-3 times to remove.

Could be a Florida thing, but i get streaks with S&G and a slight haze with S&W on black.

Both dry very fast for me.

I have the same problem with the S&G. I have tried it a number of time, in different temperatures, with different MF cloths & I just don't like how much time it takes to remove the streaking.

On the other hand, I love the S&W. I find it very easy to work with.

Nice topic, and I appreciate the way the subject is phrased; a product really can be right for one guy and not right for another.

With that being said,

I tried just about all of the ClearKote stuff a year ago, and I didn't find anything there that I couldn't get anywhere else.

Steve is a great guy, but I didn't find anything exceptional about the Poorboys line, other than the S&W. I tried the SSRs, Natty's, the EX w/Carnauba. Shrug.

I just don't care for the Klasse products. They work, but I never find myself choosing them from the shelf, EVER. I would probably buy more product if everything was gone except for the Klasse. I've given away far more of it than I've ever used.

Meguiar's #16; I just don't get it. Same with the Collinites. IMO it's always been easy to get great protection from a natural wax, the problem has been getting that protection to look good. #16 and the Collinites demonstrate this phenomenon.

Meguiar's #26 paste is just too difficult to use in this era of super easy on/off waxes. I'm glad I only spent a buck for my jar of it.

The Cyclo. Worst of all worlds, IMO. Hideously expensive compared to other tools, not as powerful as a rotary and not as versatile as the PC7424. Sure it works. So does everything else. My most expensive mistake.

Whoa! That is interesting. Clearkote, Poorboys, and Klasse are among my very favorites. I really like Poorboys stuff. Interesting that you don't care for Klasse. Not even AIO? I couldn't live without AIO, if for no other reason that you can use it on just about every surface of your car. This is a good thread.

This is a great thread that really proves that different products suit different people, and my theory that every one has thier own detailing "style"... :buffing: Lets just amke sure we keep things civil so this thread can benefit others!

I felt that the ClearKote products were a waste of money; they weren't any better than what I already had. Same with the Poorboys. Those were the two mass purchases ($100 spent at each website) that got me off the product merry-go-round. I don't think that it means they don't work, it means that in my estimation they are average products, and there's no reason to choose them over any other. If I was just starting out and picked them first, I'd probably feel differently. But with all the discussion of them here, I got the impression that CK and PB were actually better than other products. They're not.

As far as AIO, I don't have a place for it. If I need paint cleaned or deoxidized, there are at least a dozen products that will do it cheaper than AIO. No one uses it as a one-step I don't think, so its protection properties are a non-issue. And SG? It's hard to use and I don't like the look. I've used it on ss red, on metallic cc platinum, and on metallic cc burgundy. It's not for me.

What I really think this thread shows is that everyone should make up their own minds! Try to get sample exchanges! For example, for everyone who likes NXT, there is another guy who is disappointed. Same with SG, it appears. (I probably should add NXT to my list, because for me #21 is so superior that I'm only going to use my NXT on other peoples' cars.) And sometimes what you like depends on what you tried first; different products require different techniques, so if you get used to the way IP works, you might find #80 problematic. I did.

I concur. I would have been pretty upset if I paid full price for this jar of wax now that I know how difficult it is to use. The look and durability was decent enough, but just not the worth the hassle. Gotta love the .99 cent special at Autoone though lol! :woohoo:

Unfortunately, I can't ever see myself wanting to use it again. :sadwavey:

Clearkote VM – Stains trim, no cleaning ability.

4* UPP – Poor durability.

OCW – Poor durability . . . mutes the finish on some colors.

Wow! Ive always considered your issues, to be those particular products better attributes!

Funny, I resurrected my can of #26 that I haven't used in at least 10 years, to top SG on my friend's car. Between Autopian thinness of application, and the SG underneath, it was a pleasure to use, and gave the car a nice glow.

Of course this thread starts the day after I placed orders with AutoGeek and TOL for many of the products listed. I guess i'll have to find out for myself.

Dont worry yourself mate

All products mentined in this thread are actually A1 products but we all have personal preferences, take Rich above his work is outstanding and I totally respect his detailing but I would disagree on the #21 and #16 thing it just comes down to personal likes and dislikes :xyxthumbs

Cobraryan I prefer ssr line by pc and megs line by rotary or cyclo

Mosca I wish I could find #26 for a buck a jar!

1) Meg's scratchx.....oh so painful to remove, maybe its just me, but i wun touch that thing ever again..

2) Scott mentioned before...Turtlewax's clearvue...streaks like mad, have to buff like mad to clear up the glass.....so painful...

3) But i do like OCP, it does bring up the gloss, not painful to reome either

I guess I'll go!

Zaino Z2/Z5 - I never liked the way they looked, especially on my black car. I didn't like having to use ZFX with them, either.

Poorboys SSR 2.5 - too much dusting, not enough fixing.

Meg's Final Inspection (#34) - streaky!

Hrm, think that's it. Everything else seems to have it's place.
