Popular polishes that perform with PC

Using 4" pads will make a lot of products work more effectively when it comes to medium-severity marring.

I only use 4" pads for polishing. Much better than 6" pads, but I imagine a rotary is another step up.

Have had great results with PO85RD and FPII.

Sonus SFX3 and DP Final Finishing Polish are nice mild polishes for finishing, and seem to be designed especially for PC application. However, they can be worked in FOREVER, so I'm never sure when it's done.

For defect correction on Black with a PC I have had most success with Poorboys SSR 2 and 2.5 and DP Super Swirl Eliminator.

As final polishes Speed Glaze, Clearkote VM, and Optimum Polish.

I see a lot of Menzerna votes out there, but have read in other posts that it can be difficult to use becuase it cannot be worked very long and starts dusting, maybe this only applies to their IP, and not the FP II ? But I need to remove some defects so I thought I would need IP ... not sure what this P085RD product is compared to IP ? Can it remove defects and is it user friendly, for say a PC newbie.

I'm curious about this as well. Is the P085RD suitable for use with a PC? Which pads?

I've had the best luck with Poorboy's SSRs.

The "nano" polishes give their best shine with the rotary but will give pretty nice results with the PC and a polishing pad(W8006) and with longer work time a finishing pad. 99% of my use has been with the rotary and W9006 finishing pad and there isn't a buffer trail in sight anywhere.

Menzerna polishes are easy to use with the exception of PG which is still not difficult to use but does have a small learning curve. I don't have any problem with IP, FPII or the PO's being dusty at all. I use a sprits or two of water on the pads when using PG and that helps keep both dust and work time in check.

I wanted some comments on popular polishes that perform well with a PC that remove medium or light defects. Give me ones that are user friendly, and to get more specific how about on "black" cars :2thumbs:

For PC use on Black I've had excellent results with Menzerna polishes.

Ditto...

Here are some examples. All done via PC. Single passes. First and second steps done with polishing pad and LSP applied by hand.

I can see the Menzerna removed the scratches but what are all those "white looking" dots ? Please comment on how long this polish can be worked and possible dusting problems.

I've had good success with Poorboy's SSRs (2.5, 1), Menzerna (FPII) and Optimum Polish. I do hope to try some Optimum Compound, as I here its quick and effective via PC. Those are the only polishes i've ever used, and I can say i'm pretty happy with all of them.

*edit* for you PO85RD users via PC, do you get better results with a polishing or finishing pad? I seem to get the most slight marring, almost like FrizzleFry's after picture with everything I use. I'm wondering if I used a finishing pad with PO85RD instead of a polishing pad, if I would get rid of that ever so slight marring?

Those white looking dots are actually the metallic flakes in the paint (if you're talking about that last pic). Which polist are you referring to? IP tends to dust... but nothing that can't be solved with a sprayer bottle. Some say not to use in direct sun but I have with great results. Just gotta get more action from the sprayer bottle. I work a section at a time. Not sure if it's 2x2 but somewhere around there. PG and IP may dust (dusting most of the time from dried polish on the pad) and FP2, FP, 106FF have long working times and not dusting issues. IP and PG you'll definitely want to avoid getting on trim. On occassion while polishing with FP2/106FF I'll hit the trim where IP is on and it takes care of that problem.

JohnnyDaJackal: As for the micromarring you mention as my finished result, some are just not worth trying to get out. Since both are Honda's... and black... the paint's going to need polishing at least twice a year. So rather than be too aggressive and trying to get that perfect finish (these are daily drivers BTW) you really should consider just letting it go since you'll be doing it again anyways.

I use a polishing pad with PO85RD and have no marring, this is why for me it's the best finishing polish on black.

Here is a close up of IP not being broken down all the way and leaving some marring:

and here is after FP and a polishing pad: (I don't have any close up pictures of PO85RD but it finishes the same as FP)

FrizzleFry: Thanks for the response, I know exactly what you mean with Honda's soft paint, and being a DD and black doesn't help either. I'm going through the same problem too. I think i'll just stick with Optimum for my car, Menzerna didn't make much an improvement over the Optimum, but I will give it another shot.

Hi Richt,

In your opinion, is VM comparable in removing swirls or compounding haze as Op Polish? I read that VM contains fillers right? Can I also go straight to VM from, say OPC with yellow LC pad to VM with white polishing pad?

Just like me, I use PO85RD with meguiars W9006 and W8006 with great results! I also have been using PO85RD with cyclo and blue and white Lake Country pads. Nice results but not as good as with the rotary.

For me the DP SSE and SSR's 2 and 2.5 finish down for me LSP ready anyway from a light cut pad with PC even on Black. VM with a polishing pad here has always sorted anything else left behind if need be though. By PC and a polishing pad VM cleans up paint very nicely.

Opt polish is more aggressive by polishing pad than VM though. Not used Opt compound so cant comment what would be best to follow that with as I have never seen how it finishes down.
