Poorboys In The Sun

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
Steve,

Can you tell me why your product is OK to use in the sun without giving away your secret?
What temperature is not safe?
In the application should you work in smaller sections, or do the same as in the shade?
Dry time seems moot but is there a difference in that application? Like wipe on then take right off?

I have read this many times about your product but everyone else on the market seems to frown on this, so that's my reason for wanting to know. I figured there would be others here with the same questions or more.
I'd also be interested in what others here have found while using in the sun, as well.

Thanks
Oh and the baseball caps are great!

Dave,

"I" am not up to using them in our AZ sun, so I can't report on the results, but as I recall, the instructions for using PB's in the sun, say to do a much smaller area & to remove promptly.

Just keep pushing those caps, I'm sure I'll have to include one in my next order ;)

Dave,

I have used poorboys On black in direct sunlight w/ my pc ... And Steve watching!!! It must have been about 98-105 that day! .... I had no problems ... I know that doesn't answer your question ... but just so you know it can be done!

Thanks Norah

I have used it on hot cars but only in the shade and it does work well but never in the direct sun, might have to try that.

One would think that I was getting a kick back for these baseball cap plugs :naughty

The SFX yellow cutting pad generates alot more heat than alot of the other pads out there. Try using it on 5. Did you prime the pad with a squirt of QD?

Dave thanks for the plugs on the caps;)

no i can't tell you why, but it has to do with better ingredients:) and yes as Nick said, last years Detailing day was in extreme sun and heat and few had any problems, even on black.

DO NOT prime the pads with water or QD's ..this will make the SSR's dry faster and make them more aggressive and not let them completely breakdown, which can lead to heavy dust and marring:eek

Hope this help:hippi

Too much product might have just gummed up the pad. I would use less product, maybe zap the pad wth QD, play around with it, with a clean pad each time, im sure there is a technique that will work.

I have used SuperSuds,ProPolish,Polish with Carnuba,EX,EX-P and Natty's in direct sunlight throughout the year. They performed as advertised. No problems whatsoever in applying or removing.

I do my car all the time in direct sunlight (I got fried yesterday!) and even after driving it. I have yet to have a problem with: EX, EX-P, SSR1-3, PWC, S&W, S&G, S&R, SSS, Pro, or Natty's. I have a black car so at times the car was too hot to set your hand on (if I see you do it however I'll break your arm! LMAO)
As to how it works.... I'm SURE it's a trade secret but I'll bet the low hydrocarbon content helps....
However, applied at night at dewpoint... very hard to work with and SLOW cure times with the finishes (EX, Natty's tested).
-Rob

I have used SSR 2.5, 2.0 and 1.0 in mid-day sun (about 88 degrees out) with no problems at all. I;ve also used both EX and EX-P in the sun. Both worked without issues and wiped off with any problems at all. Oh, and my truck is black!

I'm pretty sure my friend Scooter (from this board) is using SSR 2.5 and PWC Blue on about 50 Commercial Trucks with dark red paint. He's doing this job in the Phoenix area in direct sunlight, so I'd guess the surface temperature on those tractors to be 130 +. He told me last week that the product is coming off like a dream, and the trucks look fantastic.

I remember that thread, (http://www.detailcity.com/showthread.php?t=12370 ) and all I can is, "He is a much better man than I!!" :bow :bow

I just got upstairs from the garage where I "cheated" & gave the V a quick S & W topped with S & G, instead of the full detail I had planned for this weekend and it almost killed me!! :(
Phoenix is NOT a detailer's paradise in the summer :hot :hot

I'll tell you I tried other products on these trucks while I was detailing them, and most of them were done in temps greater than 105. Poorboys walked all over the other stuff in the heat. It gave the best shine. It was the easiest to use, and it worked the fastest. I am really glad that I got talked into using the product. If you are detaining in teh heat, it is the ONLY way to go.

Scooter

Scooter,
I've been using Poorboys since I got my new V over a year ago, and I love the product line!! It's not the product that suffers from the heat, it's me!! I guess I just need to take more :chill ;)

It sure was hot this weekend and some of the vehicles were guaged at 170* on black and 140* on Silver..so I guess they worked pretty good in the sun;)
