Poor Boys ssr3 or optimum Compound?

Currently the most abrasive product I have is Poor Boys SSR 2. I have some potential clients w/ black cars and nasty swirls. The SSR 2 seems to work pretty good on my car, however I was looking to up it a notch and have something else in my arsenal. How does SSR 3 compare to Optimum compound or optimum hyper? Thanks for your help.

Optimum Hyper and SSR3 have similar cut. Are you working by PC or rotary? I would *personally* choose the hyper everytime since it achieves similar results to SSR3 but dusts less and leaves less hazing (in my experience). It does take quite some time to break down with a PC though.

I too prefer Hyper Compound. However, in my experience SSR3 is actually more aggressive than OHC, but will also leave a lot more hazing/swirls. If you only use a PC, I wouldn't go any stronger than OHC, as SSR3 leaves quite a mess of hazing.

I found SSR 3 to be the equivalent to sand in liquid suspension.

If you already have SSR2 but want to step up a little in aggressiveness I would go with SSR2.5 (especially if you are using PC and are only working on swirls).

SSR3 is quite aggressive and usually not needed for "swirls" but more suited to "scratches". It does also always need a follow up with a less agressive product, while SSR2.5 sometimes does not.

Haha ya that's true. Perhaps that explains why it hazes so much. I was judging them more by results than the haze they cause. I find in terms of marr removal OHC and SSR2 provide me with similar results. I recommended OHC above because SSR3 causes haze very easily when I use it.

is optimum compound and hyper compound the same thing....same price on exceldetail, but no info on the hyper.....looking to pick some up, but want to make sure its what I need

so if I have been using megs 83/menzerna IP, what would be the better of the optimum compounds for me to get????? for scratches the other two arent even coming close to working out!!!! sorry for the hijak

Read my mind with this post!

I'm currently reviewing the 'correction' products market and finding that, while Poorboys SSR products have a long and distinguished history, Optimum seems to have hit the market with a splash!

So tough to find a good reason to go either Poorboys or Optimum right now!

OHC is definitely on my "to be purchased" list. I've got SSR3 but rarely use it. I've found that 2.5 with a medium cut pad is about as harsh as I need...or at least as harsh as I'm comfortable running. I did once use SSR3 on my mother in law's beater. It was effective - remarkably so, actually - but as others have mentioned there was dust everywhere and I needed a step-down pass to remove the hazing.

Anyway, on the black vehicles I do, including my pickup which seems to collect nasty scratches like there are prizes involved, one and sometimes two passes with SSR 2.5 offer outstanding results.

Good thread - I really appreciate the information!

I use IP and 83 interchangably with Opt Compound, so I would say OHC would be the next logical step. If that doesn't do it you might consider Menzerna PG. I just did a detail on a G35 where I tried OHC and originally didn't get much done, but PG did the trick. I used Opt to take out the hazing. I tried SSR3 on the same car and it just hazed way too much.

Is the regular OC comparable to ssr2.5?

What would be easier to use? What gives better results?

If it's as good as ssr2.5 i will order that instead since i can get 32oz for 20 bucks where 16oz of ssr2.5 is 17 bucks.

Any help is great ;)
