Pontiac Sunfire?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am looking for a car, as I am soon going to have to do a commute to school every morning (as opposed to walking). My parents have been helping me pick one out (and my fingers are crossed hoping that they'll help pay for it, too:chuckle: ), and my mom has stumbled across a Pontiac Sunfire for $1000 dollars. It's being sold by one of her co-workers, not a dealership, and I know very little about it. (I don't know the year, or the mileage, or even the colour for that matter). I realize that this isn't much to go on, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me something in general about sunfires. Are they any good, or will the thousand dollar price be undercut by ten thousand dollars in repairs? Anything you could tell me about them would be great (I've done a lot of research online, but every site contradicts the last on the run-down of the car)

Thanks a bunch!

Well, a year would definitely be helpful, but just by going by the price you mentioned, it seems like it would be a late-90's model. Here is the cars.com page for the 1998 Sunfire: 1998 Pontiac Sunfire Summary. Cars.com gives consumer car reviews, recall notices, driver reviews, specs, etc. Let us know when you have more information, maybe we can get more information for you. Another place to check out would be Epinions.com, another good consumer review site.

The Sunfire was Pontiac's Chevy Cavalier. IIRC it was subpar in most areas...but then again, a $1000 car is a $1000 car. With a car that cheap, you should probably focus on its shape rather than its ratings...ANY $1000 car could potentially require repairs costing ten times that amount.

Ooooookay, the Pontiac was already sold (???), so I guess I'm on the lookout once again for a cheap car that goes.

Thanks a bunch for your help,

Andesign
