polymer and caranuba question

i know it's fairly common practice to add a caranuba topcoat when using klasse. i was wondering has anyone put a topcoat of caranuba on top of zaino? is there any benefit (depth, shine, etc) to topping zaino like there is topping klasse? will the caranuba apply without hazing over the zaino? will the oils, etc in the caranuba do anything to the zaino? thanks.

I've topped Zaino in the past and won't be doing it in the future. Initially the surface was slicker and the shine was a tad bit better, but I honestly think the downfalls are greater than the benefits. For instance, you can't add another coat of Zaino until the carnauba is gone. But the biggest factor is that carnauba contains a lot of solvents and oils. Over time these solvents can degrade the Zaino layers. I read somewhere that some carnauba formulations are roughly 75% naphtha (or mineral spirits). Such solvents will strip any sealant over time. So, I just don't think it's worth jeopardizing my Zaino protection for a carnauba look. The difference is too slight anyway....

Those that use Klasse with carnauba report better results with the combo, so my opinion strictly applies to Zaino...

Carnuba over Zaino. Not much difference and the slight change is very short-lived.

Been there .. done that.. Will not do again!!

I get my carnuba fix by doing the LS400.

I'm going to repeat what Mike said on this one as well....

It stinks not being able to layer more sealent over the wax. Just make sure you have enough Zaino on there. I stopped at 8 layers of Klasse last season, with a weekly wash stripping my finish and only a few coats of wax ontop of the degrading Klasse I just wasn't happy. I'm aiming for 10 coats of Klasse before the wax this season.... for now I'm going to stick with carnauba by itself.

A dawn wash will strip wax and not strip a substantial amount of zaino IMO.

2-3 Dawn washes didn't strip my Klasse either. You'd be fine either way if you use carnauba and then a light Dawn wash to remove the wax in order to add more layers. The additional layers will restore slickness.

I'll be trying Blitz over half my hood and 1 front fender this week after washing! I only have 4-5 coats of Z.

Joed, why the carnauba conversion? I only ask because I'm about to do the same thing myself. I've got the P21S cleaner and wax on order, and I'm going to be receiving meguiar's #26 and Hand Polish from a forum member. Plus I've got my friend's can of Blitz which I'm borrowing.
