Poly sealer chipping off- options?

I purchased a 92 BMW recently. In the glove box was documentation showing it had been treated with something called " Cal Gard" poly
sealer. Appears to be some sort of paint protectant they used back in the day.

Anyways, on a couple of places around the door locks and handles this poly coating is chipping off. It looks kinda like when you get a sunburn and your skin starts peeling off..

What are my options- I would guess I have to remove it all- what is best way to do that? THanks.

Are you sure that it is this sealant, or is the clear coat failing?

Do you have any pics

I'm affraid that your Cal guard is loooong gone sir. What you're seeing is most likely clearcoat failure . Clearcoat protects the paint and gives it a great look. But when it starts to go then it gets ugly. Hopefully its not chipping too much on your Bimmer .

I had a red '91 318 is that had no clearcoat left but buffed out real good. What you want to do is protect what clear you have left by waxing or sealing .

Now that I look at it, probably is the clear coat chipping away.
Will try and post a pic. No real fix for this is there? Its just one isolated area, rest of car looks pretty good.

its possible you might just have that small area . The horizontal surfaces get the most UV rays so be sure and protect what you have now.

Depending what you want, there are guys here called "backyard" painters or "blow-in guys" that are discount, often mobile car painters. They are often willing to do as little as possible, airbrushing, etc. It isn't always pretty, but better than what I call "Auto Leprosy", which methinks you have.

You can also buy clear coat at a auto supply store, make sure it is 2K.
