so which pad should i have the most of

The one(s) most likely to get loaded up. No, I'm not being a smart-aleck :grinno:



If you use MF cutting disks for the aggressive work, then you can get by with just a pair of those. But if you use foam you'll need a lot of your "aggressive foam pad".



If you end up doing a lot of the intermediate step (assuming three polishing steps, or this might be the "second of two" if you only two-step it) then you'll need a lot of *those* pads.



If you do a three-step, you shouldn't need very many of the "final polish" pads.



OTHER THAN MF, get a lot of pads for the step you'll be doing the most of. The bad news is that if you use foam for the aggressive work, you might need a lot of both your aggressive and your next-step pads. Yeah, I know, but that's how it always works out for me.

yeah i understand that. My thing is if there is away around me not having to buy 4 or 5 of the same pad ill do so. These pads aren't cheap and 3 pads with shipped cost about 36 dollars or so. Im just tired of having to order stuff..lol i haven't even got the chance to put my knowledge to the test yet. I feel that once i do ill find my own dislike and likes on my own. Just from reading the forum its seem like anyone can get caught in picking up on what other hate when u haven't tested it out on your own.

^^^Buy 2 more than you need, cycle them in and out more frequently, and they will last a long time. I still have some pads from 2004 that work great - of course they look used but performance is great and there is no signs of adhesive wear. I think the only pads I have ever thrown away were little 3" or 4" orange pads that I accidentally ran over those tiny headlight "nipples" with...

IMO somebody just starting out with this stuff should stick with MF cutting pads/M105 for their most aggressive combo. Just repeat repeat repeat if necessary instead of trying something more aggressive.

Yeah, pads that have MicroFiber material for the "what contacts the paint" part instead of the usual foam (the MF disks do have some foam between the velcro back and the "working surface" but it's just there for cushioning).
