Polishing a clear bra

fender liner + outer grille + misc fasteners = $85

:wall

The good news is most of the black washed off with soap and microfiber mitt.

Ok here is my update, which will include a few thoughts on how I cleaned the tire marks on the bra, my initial thoughts of polishing a clear bra, and initial observations on Chemical Guys Clear Seal Gloss Enhancer & Protectant for Clear Bra, Vinyl Wrap & Paint Protection Film SUPER DETAILER. (wow long name) I wish I had a better camera, using my phone, because the results are pretty good which may not truly come out in the pics I have.

Step one: Wash with microfiber mitt and Meguiars Gold Class soap. 80% of the tire mark came off with a little effort in step one. I really have good luck scrubbing stains or junk with the mitt.

Before breaking out an abrasive polish, I tried Klasse AIO, which of course contains paint cleaners. I used a PC with 5.5 Crimson Hydro Tech pad. Amazing.

At this point I had cleaned up most of what I believed I would get without abrasives or strong solvents. So I jumped to the rotary with Menzerna PO85RD using a 5.5 LC green polishing pad. Things keep getting better. Al but a few tiny brown stains came out of the front of the bumper. A few of the deep scratches retained the stain of the tire. The bra is coming off the car so I am not too worried about it.

Here are a few shots of the bra after playing with PO85RD using the rotary.

I think I could have spent a bit more time and removed that light brown stain, but I was concerned heat and I was really just experimenting with a few mild polishes. So I backed off the stain when I got it to a point I was happy with.

After a few test spots on troubled areas using the rotary, I returned to the PC using a white polish pad and Blackfire Total Polish n Seal. Two words: I’M SOLD. This stuff worked great on the clear bra (well the rest of the car too but this is the first time I have used it on the film) I taped off a few areas to save for the warranty sample and quickly went over the entire front of the car; all of the hood and the parts of the fender covered with film. Love it. Did a 50/50 but my camera stinks. You can however see water spots under the tape line and not on the left (polished) side.

TPNS did a great jog of removing light swirls and water spots. It also left the bra feeling silky smooth and shiny.

What did not happen during the cleaning or polishing is, my bra did not turn clear. It still has a slight yellow tint. I know ca.detailchick, it looks pretty good, but I am goofy about it.

Here are a few shots of the tire chunks path under my car. No, I didn’t clean up those marks.

Love it! And I feel better now. I will install the new pieces in the light of new day and wash up the rest of the car.

I almost forgot to show you the results of the Chemical Guys test. I tried the clear bra cleaner on my mirrors which are covered with film, and bugs. I sprayed a bit of product on the mirror and let it dwell for a few minutes. Bugs came right off and the mirror is shiny clean.

Sorry for the poor pic, the sun was going down. (and it’s a phone)

The feel of the film post CG is smooth but not silky smooth as Blackfire. Granted, they are apples and oranges, I’m just saying….It’s more of a QD type product than a true sealant. I would like to do further testing to see what kind of longevity the CG product can give with its protection. I did like the smell, which is kind of like cough syrup. LOL

Conclusion, yes you can polish a clear bra, as others have said. Just be careful.

Anyway, that’s all for now. (next cool purchase on my list: a cool camera that doesn't make calls)

That looks really good Jim. :rockon

The actual name of it is Clear Seal Gloss Enhancer & Protectant.

If all you have to send back is the section you have taped off you are in a very good position to do some testing for future reference if ever needed. You can try varying degrees of polishes and compounds just to see what is too aggressive and leaves marring or swirls. Then you'll know down the road should you ever have another problem.

EDIT: Well in looking at my car in various lighting it appears that TPNS actually did clean the bra more than I thought originally. The spots I did polish are noticeably more clear than the the unpolished sections. I believe I will have another go at the TPNS using the PC and top with Crystal Seal. (I haven't bought that yet.)

VIVA TPNS!
