Can someone put these in perspective for me:

I own the original PC. I used a flex DA recently and held a Rotary at the Poorboys detail meet.

In terms of correction ability and time:

If a PC is 2 on a scale of 1-10 for Safety and 2 for correction time and 2 for ability.

What is a Flex Da

What is a Rotary.

I need to correct some minor swirling on my car and if the flex is close to a rotary I would buy it. If its worlds apart I need to reconsider. Been doing alot of research and I am confused. Many people I repect are giving me conflicting advise. Looking for more volume of experienced input. I am a nubie. I am only doing this for my own vehicles. I have about 2 hours behind a PC that I own and 4 hours behind a Flex that was lent to me by my new best friend RONKH! (You will always be the King in my book)

FLEX:

safety - 8
correcting time - 9
correcting ability - 7
learning curve - 8

Rotary:

safety - 3
correcting time - 7
correcting ability - 9
learning curve - 3

The reason I have the FLEX time faster than the Rotary time is it is a step saver. Most of the time you will have to go back and remove swirls from a rotary where as with a FLEX you will not.

These ratings can vary with product and pad selection.

Some products do better with one machine than they do with another. Same with pads.
 
Jeff, I agree totally with what Troy has said above.
I believe if you are just using it on your own personal vehicles the Flex should do enough correction for you. Your Infiniti was in pretty good shape plus you learned alot on preventing swirls so I really don't think you will need a rotary anytime in the near future.
 
If you're just doing your car and maybe a friend or two, keep the PC and save your money. With the correct compound/polish and a few pads - you can detail as good as any of us part-timers!

I just got my car back form the body shop, if you remember the rear bumper was replaced. They are a top notch shop and they washed the car before returning it. I need to de-swirl it again. I do not think I got out as much as I thought I did. i am going to give it one more shot myself before I throw in the towel and fjust resign my self to filling it forever! What Polish System would you recommend? And what grits and pads on a Flex?
 
You got it all out. (i know) They washed it for you....... Proper washing technique is only practiced by true afficiasnados (sp)

Flex is easy safe besides you alread know how to use it.
 
Don't know how bad your car is. My advice would be:

Machine: Flex or PC
Pads: LC Flat pads: orange, white and blue or Meg's 2.0 pads.
polish: 105, 2.5, 205 and 80
cleaner: pb's pro polish
sealant: EXP, UPP, NXT
wax: s100 or natty's red, white, and blue!

This should just about tackle anything.

Why all the questions about 105/205 since you are recommending it?:confused:

105 cuts great, and very fast without hazing. 105 tackled what I would have prob done two full applications with dacp for 10 minutes and it would have left a haze.

205 I am still working on, to get to finish the way I'd like. It polishes down very nice, I just have to get it to finish nicely on black. They are amazing polishes this is why I would recommend them, After a little practice, I'm sure I will be moving a bit faster around the car, with better results.

Just trying to dial in my process, It takes time to get use to polishes, Detail City has been a great help.

I was wondering-If I polish my car w a flex starting with SSR2.5 and I jump to SSR1 or do I need to use SSR2 first?

What Pad colors do you think I will need? Want to get everything ordered so I knock it out next weekend.

Did you get my message from 2 nights ago?

No you don't need the SSR2 in this situation ... I would stick to white polishing pads for the 2.5 and black finishing pads for the 1
 
Having gotten sap all over my car just after detail weekend I can feel your pain of having to re-do it.

I again go back to your own experience. You did use the pc first, then switched to the flex. Which was easier? Did you feel after the first few minutes that you could damage your paint? Did you feel that the flex had enough correcting power for your problems?

Remember you have a black car. Therefore it will show the most minor marring and swrillng. So get the one that you're most comfortable with.

Black is not a hobby, it's a carrer.

Steve answered the question correctly. Since we have personally seen your finish the white pad would be best for 2.5. Just remember to buff it until the polish dusts or breaks down that will reduce your hazing and make your finish perfect for the SSR 1 and the charcoal finish pad. I know I told you to order the orange cut pad.use the white but keep the orange handy I remember you saying your children bring their bikes in an out of the garage. It could be used for little handlebar scratchs and stuff hopefully that won't happen though. And like Ron said black is a career. Yes, I did get your message thanks again for your help. I have to figure my attack plan out.
