my buddys car is very very smooth.....he waxes it alot but never polishes it. What can he do to give some reflection to it. Polish it? or what... its a red car.

i dont have a picture of it otherwise i would post it. the paints in good condition no real scratches or swirls or anything but just not really a good refelction. outside on a partly cloudy day the clounds reflection is just a big red blob when looking into the car. Not white liek it looks like in my red car. i told him he needs polish but hes skeptical.
His dad truck is black and he said its only has one coat of wax on it in the last half a year or so and i can see into it like a miror and its a year older then the car. I told him that his car needs polish but the truck probally dosnt NEED polish (never hurts but "need") am i far off on this?

I saw a signature over on Autopia the other day that I agree with 100%. It said not to blame the wax or sealant on the car's lack of depth. The depth is in the prep and not necessarily in the wax. If he doesn't polish it to keep the paint clean, then it is just going to oxidize and look nasty. Red is a weird color. It is the first color in the spectrum to fade and be plaqued with oxidation. It has to be kept polished and clean or it will look like crap in no time. If he feels that waxing his car a couple times a year is going to work, then I don't think you will be able to talk him out of it. Getting into car care is more of a conversion than just a hobby. Once you change, there is no going back. Once you have seen what your car looks like after a proper detail then you will never be satisfied with just waxing it again. It has to be the most addictive thing in the world. If your friend isn't into it, then you will have to do some real convincing. You may have to do half the car for him just to show him what he is missing.

so im correct on what i told him? oh and i guess his car is in my avatar on the left

its the car not the mountaineer.

I'd say you are correct. Every car needs polish as part of a proper detail routine. If he isn't polishing the car, then it does not look as good as it could. If he is happy with 'I guess it looks ok" shine, then that is his thing. Just keep your car looking good and don't let him lead you to the dark side. :naughty Send him over to OCDetails.com or Detail City so he can see how to do it right. :bigups
