Polish HELP!

Hey guys - I'm a bit of a noob, so flame away.

I recently got, as a Christmas present, Meguiars gold class clear coat liquid wax. I was wondering what the best polish would be to use before applying this. Could I just replace this wax with the regular Meguiars that's used in the 3 step process? Thanks in advance.

Hi there...

As far as I'm aware Megs GCWax is in fact a "polishing wax" - although there's no mention of this on the bottle. So, if your paintwork is already in new or very good condition then you shouldn't need a separate polish.

You could use a paint cleaner or clay system before applying the GCWax - this would make sure your paintwork is extra clean and shiny before spending your time polishing/waxing. Preparation is always the key to creating a top notch shine!

I'm sure other members will come up with more advice.

As mentioned briefly, it depends on what condition your paint is in already, as preparation prior to wax is very important.

Most people at Autopia like to use more effective preparation methods, but they're more demanding. If you just want to go simple with a 3 step, yes you could replace the wax with Gold Class. Some would argue that it would remove some of the Step 2 glaze, but it couldn't hurt to use it anyway I think.

Oh yes, :welcome to Autopia Jar!

And ... (count on me to say this, right? ;) ) ... don't forget to clay before any of that polishing/waxing! :bigups

Hello again Jar!

When my car was just 3 months old I gave it the Meguiars treatment as follows:

Wash with GC Shampoo then dry.

Quick Clay.

ScratchX.

GCWax.

The car came up newer than new! Looked twice as good as the day I picked it up from the dealer!

There are many different procedures that you can follow, as you no doubt have noticed by looking through the threads on Autopia. You guys in the USA have a lot more choices when it comes to products etc. than us in the UK. (And your products are usually half the price! - You lucky people!!)

If your happy with the paint now you can try and go with #7 show car glaze as your polish. You might also try letting the gold class dry for 1 hour before removing I like the look better after doing this on black.
