Polish dust Dangerous?

Hey guys,



After a long weekend of polishing I felt as though my nose and eyes were a bit more agitated than normal.



-I am wondering if the dust produced (then inhaled most likely), when polishing with Menzerna and others that contain an aluminum element are dangerous?



-I would like to know if any of you wear protective eyeglasses or a mask?



Any of you have similiar issues or concerns?

Dust of any type can cause problems like asthma IIRC. Some polishes (I believe one is the Perfect-It II series of 3M polishes) contain known carcinogens. I say just try to avoid breathing any dust if possible. Wearing a particle mask sure wouldn't hurt.
 
I coughed a bunch the next day after using the Menzerna 106FF/RMG combo for the first time. I will be wearing a mask next time for the polishing stage...
 
I'd advise you to wear at least an NIOSH 95 mask. If you can't find that, I suggest a surgical mask at the minimum. :D
 
You have to keep some aluminum oxide based polishes wet. You can get lung damage with a small amount of some aluminum based polishes when they starts to dust. Wildboar how are you doing? Haven't seen a post from you in a while?

On a serious note, I use 106FF all the time, but yesterday I was in a really tight garage and noticed after about 4 hours that I was coughing *a lot*, I thought maybe I was getting a cold but I feel fine now. Eek.

The wet hack that seems like it might turn into something that you might have to cancel an appointment or two?! Yay for 3M, Powergloss and 2.5! I used to get some serious tightness in my chest the morning after a long two or three stage polish. Cough, Mucinex, cough. Surgical mask with dusting products I say. :)
 
If your coughing from after the detail, it just means you did a good job. Personally, everything now-a-days gives you cancer. I get giddy when I look at my plethura of chemicals and polishes. Just wondering, how many of us look at our products and just want to hug them?
