poli-seal separation fix

I had a huge bottle of poli-seal separate on me the other day. No surprise as its sat in my van for several months and the weather has been getting warmer.

I shook it for several minutes and didnt help it .

I hate wasting product or money so I had the idea of putting the liquid part in one container and the solid part in another and slowly started adding the liquid part to the solid ,stopping and stiring with a spoon . It started to work!

I felt like I was making a cake.:D

The whole proccess took a while ,5 maybe 10 minutes but it seems to look and behave normal now and even used it with no problem.

I shake it every day and so far its been fine.

Thanks dc! I wish I knew this sooner when I threw my gallon away!! :D Mine looked super clumpy. I'm going to try this with Opt Polish and see how it goes!

hey dc, that's good info. i've got a bottle of poli-seal several months ago that i haven't had a chance to use yet and it's still ok so far. i do have that separation problem with my griot's garage paint sealant and gg one step sealant (both older). i contacted griot's and was advised that was normal. it still seems to work ok when shaken well though. have you noticed any difference in in the final finish results after your "stirred not shaken" method ?

No, everything seems perfect .

But just to be safe I would like Chris from Optimum to confirm that its ok to stir back together once its separated.

It looks buttery now just like the same day I got it .

Great tip DC. I know that the separation issue has been a problem with Poli-Seal. Mine has done the same thing :(

This is one of those money saving tips everyone should keep in the back of their mind. Most of the products we have will naturally separate. If you read the manufactures product label it will most likely say SHAKE WELL.....

Occasionally I'll grab a few bottles and really shake them up just to insure their uniformity and consistency....

Great thread California Dreamer :bigups

With so many products, I have to shake them once a month to insure their uniformity and consistency. Thanks DC for the heads up.

If any one tries this just remember to be patient.I didnt think it was working at all at first .

It probably works even better with a fork or a kitchen whip.

Pour the contents into a bottle with a larger opening and put a small kitchen whip or paint mixer into a cordless drill and mix it up. A paper clip works good to mix up 2 oz sample bottles of paint sealant that have separated.

Mine actually thickened up and no matter how much it was shaken it didn't thin. Here's the reply to an e-mail sent to Dr. G. I followed his instructions and it worked great. This might work for you as well.

"Thank you for your email and using the Optimum Car Care products. Poli-Seal gets thicker over time as the solvents evaporate from the bottle. You can just add 1-2 oz. of paint thinner/mineral spirits or some opti-Seal to your bottle to thin down the product. The other products you mentioned, do not have any solvents and therefore are not affected in the same way. Please let me know if this helps your product or not. Thanks again. "

Ive been shaking up my PS everday and then kind of forgot about it and within just a few days it had separated again!

I was able to stir it all up again by the same method.

I guess once it separates it has a tendency to do the same very quickly again!

Another observation is that it seems to work better if you do shake it from side to side as oposed to up and down.

i know ive mentioned this before, but when products separate like that i will use a paperclip chucked in my variable speed drill and use that as a little blender to blend everything, like with the sample of wgdgps i got way long ago it was separated and i got it to go back together by shaking but was still thin, so i used the drill and i guess incorporating air into the mixture made it thicker and a much better product to work with then just shaking...just call me mcgyver!
