Poli seal not beading well

Durable does not always equal protection though. I've seen cars a year old that have never been waxed that still bead, yet are unprotected. I prefer to use slickness and appearance along with beading characteristics to tell me when it is time to reapply the wax or sealant.

Totally!!!

I see alot of cars get painted every week, I do an aweful lot of work for a body shop and it's customers so I always have a little section to work in.

I've seen completely unprotected paint bead as tight/loose/enongated/bubbled, as almost every beading pic posted on the internet. I don't know from experience how long that lasts, as i havent detailed a car painted by this guy using whatever paint he uses, it's evident to me that fresh unprotected paint has unbelievable beading action.

If durability was the goal why wouldn't you guys trucks be full of Nu finish?

Well, protective ability is a bit harder to judge. Many products claim to protect from acid rain and other pollutants and IMO if paint itself is susceptible to damage from those elements so is a thin polymer film. As slickness decreases the polymer loses it's ability to wash clean. One of 2 things occurs- either dirt sticks to the polymer decreasing slickness further and decreasing beading or part of the polymer film begins to break down. Either way another application should be applied.

In the other hand, some sealants bead like champ seemingly forever but they happily let the sprinkler water to etch the paint in no time - so beading does not equal protection.

Same for any protectant that is exposed to sprinklers, acid rain, bird droppings, etc that are allowed to sit and fester on the finish.

Hopefully, whatever type of protectant used will be the only thing sacrificed in these situations. :sadwavey:
